The Daily Mail first broke the story yesterday, followed quickly by the Phil Anschutz-owned Washington Examiner, of the latest questionable use of campaign funds by sophomore sophist Rep. Lauren Boebert–VIP tickets in August to watch her then-boyfriend and Aspen bar owner Quinn Gallagher compete in the arduous Leadville Trail 100 bicycle race:
Republican firebrand Lauren Boebert spent hundreds of dollars of campaign donations to watch a sporting event in which the man she was secretly dating was competing, DailyMail.com can reveal.
Images obtained by DailyMail.com show the Colorado congresswoman cheering Aspen bar owner, Quinn Gallagher, 46, over the finish line at the Leadville Trail 100 MTB on August 12…
According to the race’s website Gallagher finished 774th of the 1,788 competitors, finishing in a time of 9 hours, 58 minutes and 40 seconds – an average pace of just over 10 miles per hour.
The Examiner’s Brady Knox:
Images of Federal Election Commission filings obtained by the Daily Mail showed that Boebert withdrew $339.94 in campaign funds for “event tickets,” which she spent on tickets to attend the Leadville Trail 100 MTB bike race on Aug. 12, where her then-secret boyfriend Quinn Gallagher, 46, was competing. The event was roughly a month before an infamous outing where the two were kicked out of a Beetlejuice musical performance for rowdy conduct — the two were seen groping each other in security footage released to the public.
The disclosure that Boebert spent hundreds of dollars for VIP tickets to the Leadville Trail 100 to watch her then-boyfriend finish 774th–not disparaging that result, to be clear, we would never be able to match it–is problematic on a number of fronts. Considering the race was run on a 100-mile course of public roads where spectating is totally free and populated with real potential voters, there’s simply no justification for Boebert spending hundreds of campaign dollars to cheer on Gallagher at the finish line.
Just days after Boebert voted against the expulsion of her backbencher friend and babysitter of last resort George Santos for turning his campaign account into a personal piggy bank for Botox injections and OnlyFans sessions, Boebert’s disclosure of campaign cash spent to attend a sports event outside her district to cheer on her squeeze looks every bit as inappropriate. Fresh off voting in favor of members of Congress using campaign funds for OnlyFans, Lauren Boebert says hold my Hoochcraft cocktail! Boebert’s long record of misuse of campaign cash, from outsize mileage reimbursements to paying her rent out of campaign funds, makes this latest incident all too predictable–and excuses harder to swallow.
This disclosure once again underscores Boebert’s dishonesty about her relationship with Quinn Gallagher after they were kicked out of the Beetlejuice musical at the Buell Theater in Denver on September 10th. Readers will recall how Boebert threw Gallagher under the bus in the wake of the “Beetlebert” scandal, saying next time she would “check party affiliations before you go on a date”–implying that her conduct and removal from the theater was some kind of partisan setup. But that story didn’t hold together long, as other sources including a drag queen who performed at Gallagher’s bar confirmed that Boebert and Gallagher had been dating for months before the incident.
The moral scandal of “Beetlebert” has done extensive damage to Boebert politically, in some respects more harmful to Boebert than her often-repellent stands on the issues and official acts as a member of Congress. Misuse of campaign funds in the furtherance of what was about to become Boebert’s defining personal morality catastrophe could be the icing on the cake for some voters, and the appearance of official misconduct to keep the story alive with those who make it a point not to care about Boebert’s personal life.
Boebert didn’t have to vape in a theater, grope in public, lie about it for days after, or once again misuse campaign funds.
These wounds are all self-inflicted.
