At Least He's Not Your Rapey Republican Party Chairman

AP reporting via National Public Radio on the scandal engulfing the Florida Republican Party as well as the nationwide right-wing movement of concerned Karens known as Moms For Liberty, as the Florida GOP chairman is stripped of his pay and responsibilities over allegations of sexual assault stemming from the failure of what the 1980s band New Order called a bizarre love triangle:

The Republican Party of Florida suspended Chairman Christian Ziegler and demanded his resignation during an emergency meeting Sunday, adding to calls by Gov. Ron DeSantis and other top officials for him to step down as police investigate a rape accusation against him.

Ziegler is accused of raping a woman with whom he and his wife, Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler, had a prior consensual sexual relationship, according to police records.

“Christian Ziegler has engaged in conduct that renders him unfit for the office,” the party’s motion to censure Ziegler said, according to a document posted on the social media platform X by Lee County GOP Chairman Michael Thomason.

Allegations of sexual assault are of course no laughing matter, and we don’t want any levity in examining the predicament the Florida GOP chairman and his Moms For Liberty co-founder spouse find themselves in after being plunged into this moral abyss to detract from the seriousness of the alleged crime. Florida GOP chairman Christian Ziegler is reportedly accused of sexual assault after the trois in the menage a trois Christian and his wife and Moms For Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler had been carrying on for a long period found out that Bridget wasn’t coming to the latest play party. Christian allegedly showed up anyway, and the rest is now under investigation by the Sarasota Police Department.

Given the Republican Party’s and especially Moms For Liberty’s strident campaigns against LGBTQ+ books in schools and “indoctrination” of the youth of America by woke ideologies like acknowledging racism and tolerating same-sex sex, the hypocrisy revealed by this exploded bisexual affair is…well, glaring as hell. Last week, Bridget Ziegler attempted to carry out business as usual on the Sarasota school board and was shunned by fellow board members who urged her to resign. Both Zieglers have exhibited since this disclosure what can best be described as a profound lack of remorse, each defending themselves before colleagues and allies who all wish they were talking about something besides the alleged rapist GOP party chairman and gay sex life of the co-founder of Moms For Liberty.

As readers know, the Colorado Republican Party has freely waded into intra-GOP disputes this year and publicly attacked fellow Republican officials not in the favor of new chairman Dave “Let’s Go Brandon” Williams in a way we’ve never seen in local Republican politics. We have yet to see any criticism directed against the Zieglers from either the Colorado GOP’s official accounts or Williams personally–the former being Williams’ preferred vehicle for eating his own. MFL’s Colorado moms , like preeminent furry fighter and 2022 gubernatorial loser Heidi Ganahl, have yet to weigh in either.

Despite this, we do suspect that Dave Williams is watching his Florida counterpart’s salacious implosion very carefully.

That’s where we’ll leave the matter for today, with the observation once again that the hypocrisy is always what makes it worse.
