Seems more like a drunk driving / random gun violence thing than insurrection, at least in the second round of reporting.

If it was related to the threats, it is some grade-A felony stupidity (well, it was felony stupid regardless). Serious charges will be filed, including kidnapping the security guard. Good luck in DOC, buddy.
It's an unusual venue to commit a burglary, kidnapping and arson. Wouldn't the traditional sites (e.g. a convenience store) make more sense if it was not an attempt to convey a political message?
As for Grade A-felony stupidity, that only serves to underscore my suspicion that it might be MAGA related.

Genocide? Give it a rest. If Israel intended to wipe out the Palestinians, there would be far more dead. The goal of Hamas' attack was to start a war that resulted in dead Palestinians. If you want to defend that attack, the floor is yours.

Moderate solutions , like those of the Palestinian Authority, were not working. Bibi tore up Hamas' two state charter on public TV. 2021 and 2022 were the deadliest years for Palestinians in history.
Bibi's war is not "An eye for an eye", revenge, nor does it allow for a two state solution. It is fifteen Palestinian children killed or maimed for every Israeli killed or taken hostage. When the bombing finally stops, Gaza will be paved over for Israeli condos, continuing the process started 56 years ago, as Palestinians lost 80% of their land and were forced to live in apartheid – like conditions.
Bibi's own people do not support his autocratic ambitions. They demonstrated against him for weeks.
Fortunately for Bibi, he's always got knee-jerk, unthoughtful cheerleaders like those above.
I am very entertained by Trump's possible defense strategies for his January 6 case (https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/02/politics/trump-defense-strategy-january-6/index.html) because they're so clever. They're not smart, but they're clever.
The "foreign interference defense" is basically "Donald Trump isn't a criminal. He's just stupid cuz he fell for lies created by foreign actors" which is…something I guess.
The "issue" about special investigators is clever because it uses the idea that timing can never be right. If Trump was prosecuted shortly after 1/6/2021 then it would be "too soon" but since he wasn't charged until Novermber of 2022 it was "too late" and there "must be something suspicious about the timing".
Then there's the "bias" argument which is the most Trumpian. This is the "Trump gives people ample reason not to like him, then claims that they are biased cuz they don't like him" defense which is super clever! He tried this in his civil case by saying the judge and clerk were idiot assholes who hated him.
This all stands on top of the ultimate strategy of just asking "Are you sure?" over and over.until the world ends.
I can't imagine any of these strategies working. This is not a civil case against a businessman in a small court like Trump is used to dealing with. This is a federal criminal case against the former President of the United States. I's and T's have been dotted and crossed and will continue to be dotted and crossed. No technicality should derail this case and that's all Trump has for a defense cuz he can't win on merit in this case.
Excellent points. But I think in the end, like most cases, this will boil down to who is on the jury.
To that end, the NYC, DC and Atlanta cases will have decent venire pools. (This is why the attempt to remove the Atlanta case to federal court was so important. If the case went to federal court, a lot of people outside Atlanta would be on the jury.)
I don't worry about an outright acquittal in any of these three cases. I find it virtually impossible that 12 people in those communities will be seated and conclude that he was not guilty.
I worry more about the lone MAGA juror who holds out and causes a deadlock and a mistrial.
And I am more concerned about these cases getting delayed until after the election in November. I've said it before, I'll say it again, I doubt that any of these four cases gets to trial before the election. There are simply too many opportunities to get each one sidetracked.
