Wayne Williams Decides Not To Confuse CD-5 Primary Voters

Ex-Secretary of State Wayne Williams (R).

As Ernest Luning of the Colorado Springs Gazette’s political blog reports, former Colorado Secretary of State and most recently defeated candidate for Mayor of Colorado Springs Wayne Williams says after some deliberation that he will not be a candidate for the newly-open CD-5 congressional seat held by retiring Rep. Doug Lamborn:

“After careful consideration, prayer, and reflection, I have made the difficult decision not to run for Congress at this time,” Wayne Williams told Colorado Politics in a text message.

He said that he plans to support Jeff Crank in the Republican primary, adding that he believes the podcaster and political consultant is the candidate who can “seek tangible solutions for the problems facing our great nation.”

In a Republican primary where the objective for all concerned (save one) is stopping former state Rep. and current Colorado Republican Party chairman Dave “Let’s Go Brandon” Williams, splitting the “Anybody But Dave” opposition is the surest way to grease Dave Williams’ wheels to victory in the June 25th primary. It makes sense therefore that unless Wayne Williams was serious about waging the kind of scorched-earth primary against his unrelated fellow Williams that will be necessary, it’s better for the common good to get out of the race and support someone with a better chance of winning.

Unfortunately, the winner they’re looking for is not talk-radio blowhard and previous primary loser Jeff Crank–but that’s a topic for another blog post.
