  1. Fun fact – I just checked CO's most current Presidential primary reports, and the difference between total Republican ballots cast and total Democratic ballots cast is very close to the number of Haley votes. That's gotta say something, right?

    1. So are you saying that Trump and Biden start with comparable size bases, and where the Haley votes land come November is the difference?

      1. Maybe not exactly, but it looked to me like a whole bunch of anti-Tr*ump votes, though I haven't checked closely enough to see how many Haley votes were from Rs or UAFs. Fairly sure Biden will win CO in the general just based on prevailing CO demographics.

        1. Do Normie Republicans Even Exist? Maybe. Deep fissures in the GOP, anyway.

          It looks like Haley is getting 25-30% of the Republican vote, which must be a protest vote against Donald Trump. Trump can't lose those votes; they either stay home or vote for Biden depending on how pissed they are. Staying home would be great, as then they wouldn't be voting for Republican candidates up and down the ballot.

          If Haley really believed in anti-Trump, she should do a third Party write-in and screw over the Magas once and for all. 

          My guess is that there will a 10 percent anti-Maga, anti-Trump and anti-Republican shift in November. This is based on the vile nature of Trump, and the Christo-Fascist anti-women policies. 

      2. Turnout for the primary is about 35%.

        Turnout for the general election in November is likely to be somewhere around 70%.

        Lots of differences in the two elections beyond the Haley voters.

        1. Just to be clear, I was only using the word "difference" as a my-level math term. Total R voters minus total D voters produces a difference about equal to the number of Haley voters.

    1. You missed one little difference. If you squint you will notice that…

      One of the candidates is a normal human being who cares about democracy and traditional values.

      The other candidate is a fascist authoritarian with Russian kompromat who vows retribution and destruction of the US government.

      Hmmm. Which one is which? It is so hard to figure it out.

    Is It The 2020s Or The 1920s?

    Internet sleuths over the weekend picked up on Elon Musk’s private jet traveling to West Palm Beach, setting off speculation that world’s richest man and Donald Trump might be meeting – at a time when Trump is in desperate need of cash, both to forestall the execution of hundreds of millions of dollars in civil judgments against him and to fund his presidential campaign.

    The NYT has now confirmed that the two men did meet Sunday at Mar-a-Lago, a startling image of the current era: The South African immigrant-turned-billionaire-turned-right-wing-anti-immigrant-provocateur holding the purse strings for the anti-immigrant, would-be-authoritarian seeking to reclaim the presidency he failed to seize in an attempted coup.

    I mean really, y’all. It’s hard to paint a grimmer picture of the 2020s.

    It’s made more grim by the NYT’s own staggeringly insufficient description of Musk’s politics:

    Mr. Musk’s comments about immigration have grown increasingly alarmist. He has suggested that the president’s immigration policies threaten the existence of America itself and have pushed American democracy to the brink. He has suggested that Democrats are “ushering in vast numbers of illegals” to cheat in elections. There is no evidence to support his claim of mass voter fraud.

    Musk has been trafficking in The Great Replacement Theory for months now. It’s deeply racist. It animates vast swaths of the American right wing. In addition, Musk has elevated himself into a leading light for right-wing extremists, turning his Twitter/X into a hot bed of neo-fascist rhetoric – and he himself has personally promoted and ratified some of the most rancid elements of that rhetoric.

    A private Trump-Musk meeting at Mar-a-Lago might in normal times be the stuff of left-wing fever dreams, the pro-Russian kleptocracy flexing its muscle in the grandeur of a 1920s villa built by the world’s then-richest woman whose third husband was the second U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union and who herself amassed a famously vast collection of Russian art.

    You can’t make this stuff up.

  6. I see Mitch did the Repug duck-step this morning and got in line. Somewhere in America Elaine threw up a little in the back of her mouth. Maybe he and. Cruz can start a club where the passage through the golden doors is first having your wife publicly humiliated by the rapist? 

    1. Please tell me that McConnell at least did it with all the enthusiasm of the hostage reading the ransom note aloud on the video.

    1. As much as I dislike him, Moscow Mitch is one of the dwindling number of Republican senators still willing to help Ukraine. 

      But that will likely change in January when they will all be in lock step with JD Vance, Josh Hawley and rest of the Putin Caucus.

  8. The NY Times Editorial Board attempts to spell out in plain English the threat that Trump represents to the nation and the world.

    Trump’s Conquest of the Republican Party Matters to Every American

    This is a tragedy for the Republican Party and for the country it purports to serve.

    The Republican Party is forsaking all of those responsibilities and instead has become an organization whose goal is the election of one person at the expense of anything else, including integrity, principle, policy and patriotism. As an individual, Mr. Trump has demonstrated a contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law that makes him unfit to hold office. But when an entire political party, particularly one of the two main parties in a country as powerful as the United States, turns into an instrument of that person and his most dangerous ideas, the damage affects everyone.

    I've shared the editorial, and I strongly recommend reading it.
