As someone who very much dislikes whataboutism… I'm gonna throw out a whataboutism.
Why are we focusing on banning Tiktok when we can't even get around to funding our government, US House?!
Because Tik-Tok represents symbolically 'The Other' who is trying to take away our lifestyle? If we work on getting rid of 'The Other' then we don't have to work on solving real problems with collaborative agreements. It would prove disasterous to our power grabbing narrative if we showed that we can work together with all peoples for mutual benefit.
