  1. Speaking of raising funds, apparently Trump’s plan to raise bond money by promising to ship golden sneakers at some future date in return for a pre-payment of $499 (which would only require one million suckers) hasn’t worked out.  His back up plan to put up his various properties (each worth billions according to him) has also come a cropper!  Guess his next effort will be to kite a 3 party, post-dated personal check drawn on a Nigerian Prince’s bank account.  Surely they’ll accept that 😉

      1. At this point I don't think Jared and Vanky would touch Rump with a 39 and a half foot pole !

So Trumpy says he contacted 30 different underwriters and they all turned him down, so he wants an extension or lowering of the bond or whatever. Wouldn't it have maybe been a good idea to treat the court system with the respect it deserves rather than rage like a screaming toddler, especially since you are essentially asking for some special consideration from them.

Stable genius. I don't care if I win my March Madness bracket or not, all I want is a March 26 fire sale on Dump properties !

      1. Last I looked, the RNC & the Trump Campaign combined had just over $40 million cash on hand.  I'm pretty certain they can't leverage that to get 12x in order to cover the bond.

I guess we'll soon be able to find out how much some of the properties are worth … and what sort of liens or other promises limit what the property's cash value to the Trump Organization might be.

        1. Pass the popcorn!

This is gonna be really good to watch because they will need to go by credible, objective property valuations which ignore the bullshit valuations that come out of the owner's pie hole.

        2. Not only is Trump's conviction for wildly untrustworthy property valuations karmacally (comically?) biting him in the ass, even the properties that are potentially worth over $100 million are basically illiquid, and could take years to sell even at firesale prices if foreclosed upon by a bonding company.  Who needs having all their capital tied up in litigation and returning pennies on the dollar?

  2. NeofascismTimothy Snyder. This has been getting quoted all over, this morning. Here is a more complete version.

NeofascismTimothy Snyder: The Strongman Fantasy: ‘Strongman rule is a fantasy.  Essential to it is the idea that a strongman will be your strongman.  He won't.  In a democracy, elected representatives listen to constituents.  We take this for granted, and imagine that a dictator would owe us something. But the vote you cast for him affirms your irrelevance.  The whole point is that the strongman owes us nothing.  We get abused and we get used to it. Another pleasant illusion is that the strongman will unite the nation.  But an aspiring dictator will always claim that some belong and others don't…. This might feel good, so long as you feel that you are on the right side of the line.  But now fear is the essence of life.  The politics of us-and-them, once begun, never ends…. At least, the fantasy goes, the strongman will get things done. But… the dictator has no reason to consider anything beyond his own personal interests. In the twenty-first century, those are simple: dying in bed as a billionaire. To enrich himself and to stay out of prison…. At the present stage of the strongman fantasy, people imagine an exciting experiment…. [But] if you help a strongman come to power, you are eliminating democracy.  You burn that bridge behind you.  The strongman fantasy dissolves, and real dictatorship remains. Most likely you won’t be killed or be required to kill. But amid the dreariness of life under dictatorship is dark responsibility for others’ death…
