One Small Mistake, Thousands of Donor Dollars Wasted

  • by: Colorado Pols

Late last week, the mailer you see below from the notorious “no compromise” gun rights group Rocky Mountain Gun Owners landed in mailboxes across Senate District 12, the Colorado Springs-area seat being vacated by GOP CO-05 congressional candidate Sen. Bob Gardner. The mail piece in RMGO’s usual in-your-face style doesn’t mince words or images, with photos of Mao and Adolf Hitler behind the Colorado state representative they’re attacking…but whose name we confess we didn’t initially recognize:

The reason for our momentary confusion was pretty simple, since there is no “Rep. Mark Snyder” in the Colorado General Assembly. There is however a Democratic Rep. Marc Snyder, representing a portion of Gardner’s Senate district who happens to be running for Gardner’s SD-12 seat. Unfortunately, that means anyone who uses the email address provided above to contact Rep. Snyder is going to get a bounceback–not just because Snyder’s first name is misspelled, but the domain in the address is simply wrong.

Since RMGO has a reputation for attacking fellow Republicans with as much or even more ferocity than they do Democrats, we would like to give them credit for actually spending some of their money in a way that could be considered helpful to their own side. But if RMGO can’t even spell the name of their target correctly in a costly color mail piece, it doesn’t speak well for either their quality control or making good use of donor funds.

When RMGO reverts to their usual form of eating their own, Democrats hope they do better.

  1. These are the same folks who will let you have it if you say "clip" instead of "magazine," or if you don't know what AR stands for. Precision for thee, not for me.

  2. Radical Communists!

As oposed to what?  Moderate Communists?

And linking Hitler with Mao is a bit of a stretch. Hitler was a fascist, not a communist.

These people are so fucking stupid it isn't funny.

  3. As you note.  the suffix shoudl be "coleg.gov" not "leg.colorado.gov".  So yesteryear.

The pictures of Mao and Hitler are quite disturbing.

Not sure what "arbitrary gun confiscation" is.  Presumably, it is the ERPO law, which does have firearms relinquishment (i.e., confiscation), but it is hardly "arbitrary.  And that law is strongly supported by the citizenry.

HB1174 hardly makes it nearly impossible for people to get a concealed carry permit.  The bill actually ensures that the CCW classes are meaningful and actually meet what is currently in state law "must demonstrate competency with a handgun."  Many classes have no live fire exercises.  How the hell does one demonstrate such competency when they don't even go to the range in the class?

Is the RMGO one deciding vote on what is "constitutional."?

RMGO has a new Director of Operations:  Ian Escalante.  He is pretty outrageous in his testimonies against bills and apparently isn't very attentive to detail.  But I must say he is a step up from last year's person, who stated in a committee hearing that the data on "children's deaths from firearms being the leading cause of death" was not really correct because "if you remove the black children from those numbers," guns would no longer be the leading cause of death.  Moans across the room.  Never saw that guy again.
