Finally, some good news ….
Biden Shrinks Trump’s Edge in Latest Times/Siena Poll – The New York Times (nytimes.com)
Of course, I'd be more concerned about his numbers in Michigan, Georgia and Arizona than nationally.
I went looking at Arizona polls to see status as the crAZy Supreme Court issued their opinions on the old abortion law and the citizen petition for abortion choice to go into the state constitution. .
1. Generally, presidential polling this far in advance of the election is slightly better than a flip of a coin. The unanimity of results (Trump is +3 to +6) is worrying,
2. All of the polling listed happened before the decisions of the court. And before the fumbling of the Arizona GOP majorities in the state legislature.
3. All seven of the 2024 Biden-Trump polls in the Real Clear Politics list are asking Registered Voters for their opinions. At the very least, that will miss those citizens who are going to be registered by the deadline for the general election — and there is a heck of a lot MORE effort on Democratic-leaning populations than Republican-leaning populations.
And finally, The Guardian wrote an article on Arizona politics, pointing out
I claim no certainty what will happen in AZ … but that goes both ways, with the likely larger turnout for the 2024 election throwing a great deal of uncertainty, no matter what current polls may say.
I think Biden has a better chance of carrying Arizona than Michigan.
Here's a thought, maybe Grannie Oakley can lead her MAGA groupies to the homeland of Deliverance. As a bonus you'll get a Georgia lei when crossing the border: three-toes strumming 🎶 the movie's theme song on her gee-tar
Now that it's known that Johnson is negotiating with Biden to give aid to Ukraine and FISA has passed MTG has to be getting her motion to vacate knife sharpened.
Does that mean if Georgia turns blue, MTG will leave the state?
If there's ever a night "the lights went out in Georgia" she'll be the reason.
Semi-big news – Bob Gardner did not get enough petition signatures in CD5, leaving a 2-person Crank vs. Stank (well, Williams) race for the primary. https://www.coloradopolitics.com/elections/2024/republican-bob-gardner-falls-short-on-petitions-fails-to-qualify-for-primary-in-colorados-5th/article_29c23dc0-f9ae-11ee-9727-4f032d4955fa.html
THIS is very interesting.
If it ends up being one-on-one, the legendary Lamborn strategy for winning the nomination (win with a plurality if there are enough opponents) goes out the window.
I'd still say Stank has the edge over Crank in a GOP primary, winning probably 60/40.
(BTW, Dr. Jung, love that nickname for Williams. Hope it sticks!)
I like the nickname too. It reminded me of the lyric about The Ginch
Supply Side Economics – Worked as Intended. Heather Cox-Richardson
Trickle down means that the super-wealthy became super-wealthier.
HCR is always only too happy to gloss over Democrat complicity in this history. Yes yes horrible is worse than bad and all that. But ignoring the ways that the Clinton and Obama admins kept the wealth concentration machine moving right along is not helpful. It makes is a Republican issue instead of a capitalism issue.
{sigh}
I'm old enough to remember what used to happen between 1968 and 1992 when Democrats like Hubert Humphrey, George McGovern, Ted Kennedy, Walter Mondale, and Michael Dukakis – decent and well-meaning individuals – spoke about building onto the Great Society programs. We ended up with Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush.
After losing so many time, the Democratic Leadership Council repositioned the Democratic Party to make it competitive again by telling people that if they worked, they can keep most of what they earn. Voters responded favorably. Bill Clinton and Al Gore detoxified the Democratic Party and low and behold, they managed to do what McGovern, Mondale, and Dukakis never could do – win.
At the same time, the Labour Party in Britain had its own "Come to Jesus" moment, got rid of the Trotskyites, tamed the unions, and made "New Labour" electable in 1997. But for Tony Blair's serious lapse of judgment in following Bush, Jr. into Iraq, Labour probably wouldn't have lost the 2010 election.
After a short "Walk on the Wild Side" with Jeremy Corbyn and his screwball crowd, Keir Starmer has got the New Labour band back together and looks likely to be the next P.M.
Yers, by all means let's beat the class struggle drum yet again.
That is a drum that will forever beat itself, as long as the laboring class is exploited. It beats louder after 40 years of wealth concentration.
Viva the revolution! {said sarcastically}
Yes, I realize that you proudly uphold the status quo, even as more and more millions become emisserated.
Wrong spot
Trump Cultists blame Democrats for losing their shirts on Truth Social stock, but they're sure it'll come back and hit $1,000 a share after Trump's secret plan is revealed!
Or, why Jim Jones and his ilk knew "You can fool some of the people ALL the time".
Faat Bahstahd.
Baby-back, baby-back, baby-back ribs.
As a gentle reminder before tomorrow’s trial: Trump got the 2016 endorsement (desperately sought after by Rafael Cruz). the “evangelical nod” by Falwell the Junior, because Cohen ended up with the pictures of Jr’s wife and the pool boy and he got blackmailed!.
Gawd I love this country.
And yet without irony or satire this is the KNUS political cartoon
That's right! The Right Reverend Cuckold Fallwell!
As much as I disliked his father and say what I will about the old man, dad would never been so stupid as to fall into the tryst with the horny wife and the pool boy.
