Tanc In The Tank For Ron Hanks

  • by: Colorado Pols
CO-03 GOP candidate Ron Hanks.

Ernest Luning of the Colorado Springs Gazette’s political blog reported over the weekend on an endorsement anyone could have predicted as the conservative freakroots of the Colorado Republican Party coalesce around the official party-endorsed slate in the upcoming June 25th primary: former presidential candidate and congressman Tom Tancredo, who defined the ragged outer limits of conservative politics years before doing so became cool, is throwing his support behind former state Rep. “Raging” Ron Hanks in the Lauren Boebert-less CO-03 race:

“Ron Hanks is the only candidate with a proven conservative record,” Tancredo said in a statement released by Hanks’ campaign. “As a Colorado legislator he fought the Democrat swamp and defended our constitutional principles. He served our country for 32 years and will protect the 3rd District from the federal takeover. Our water, land and western way of life are under attack.”

Added Tancredo: “We must have a REAL battle tested conservative in Washington, DC.”

With that said, as we noted earlier this month when Tancredo endorsed Boebert in the CO-04 primary:

Tancredo’s recent endorsement track record is mixed at best.

That’s the nicest way possible to say that only a small fraction of Tancredo’s endorsed candidates go on to win the general election. Tanc does do somewhat better picking Republican primary nominees, and as we said Boebert may help move Tanc’s win average in the right direction. Hanks, who is running on a shoestring with no resources for traditional advertising, is totally dependent on external support and grassroots organizing to compete in the CO-03 race.

With no candidate emerging as dominant in the incumbent-less CO-03 primary (Sorry Jeff “Bread Sandwich” Hurd), the fundamentals like raising big money matter somewhat less given the assumption that those resources will unlock for whoever prevails on June 25th. That’s the assumption Hanks is counting on as he tries to make the case that he is the better ideological fit for the district than a lawyer from Grand Junction with no political experience who won’t commit to voting for Donald Trump.

It’s an easy choice for Tom Tancredo.

    1. Varela is in Luning's story:

Hanks is the second Republican Tancredo has endorsed in the 3rd CD primary this cycle, after first backing Varela.

"I am moving my support to Ron Hanks for CD3 because he is clearly the most qualified to win the fight, to secure our border, and to stop the radical Biden Democrats from ruining our country," said Tancredo, explaining why he was pulling his earlier endorsement from Varela.

  1. Jeff Hurd is out of the party and doesnt know it. He is off brand, off code, just off. Who is persecuting trump: New York City lawyers. What is Hurd's background: a New York City lawyer. Who is against "us": the elite. What is Hurd's background: Columbia Law School same as Barack Hussein Obama! He is Izod and Geoffrey Beene in a "SWAG" tee and Carhart world.

    In 2016 this was true:

Top 10 Fortune 100 Companies Favored by Conservatives

    1. Walt Disney
    2. Amazon
    3. Apple
    4. Microsoft
    5. Wal-Mart Stores
    6. Exxon Mobil
    7. Alphabet (Google)
    8. Ford Motor
    9. Johnson & Johnson
    10. Coca-Cola

It doesnt matter if you are a radical traditional catholic if you wear J. Crew and Nike. It doesnt matter if you scream "OIL" or "BORDER" if you dont scream "TRUMP" louder. You cant order salad at the steakhouse and expect to smoke cigars with the boys.

  2. Is Adam Frisch going to use his mega haul to boost Hanks in the primary or do they think it's too much of a lift ?

Hanks may get Trump's help I imagine as Hurd hasn't bent his knee enough

    1. "Is Adam Frisch going to use his mega haul to boost Hanks in the primary or do they think it's too much of a lift ?"

Because that worked so well when Hanks ran against Joe O'Dea?

  3. Tancredo: "(Hanks) will protect the 3rd District from the federal takeover. Our water, land, and western way of life are under attack."

Does anyone around here speak fluent "Tancredo-ish?" I'm a Republican and don't have a clue what he is talking about. What "takeover" is that? Who is "attacking?"

Regarding water, is he opposing plans for the needed re-do of the 1922 Colorado River Compact? Is he including, as part of the "Western Way of Life," the massive taxpayer subsidies enjoyed by ranchers who run stock on federal public lands, in way of greatly reduced grazing fees? Is he against the settlement on the O & G claims on the Thompson Divide? What?

    1. Remember, Tanc wanted to build a big and beautiful fence along the southern border in 2008 before Trump wheeled out the big and beautiful wall in 2016.

But I don't recall Tanc promising to invoice the Mexican government for the fence.

    2. "Does anyone around here speak fluent "Tancredo-ish?" I'm a Republican and don't have a clue what he is talking about What "takeover" is that? Who is "attacking?""

An extension of the war on rural Colorado. First the Dems released wolves with their bad ballot box biology. Now wolves are moving in, sleeping with their wife, playing catch with their kids… You go to a restaurant and order a real American beef steak and sure you get it but somewhere there is also a lab growing meat! Your kids go to school and all of a sudden up is down, little bobby sue is working in quantum commuting, and cats play panio ITS ALL BEING TAKEN!

Have you not learned the language?
