Colorado Republicans Announce Newest Restrictions for Loyal Members

The Colorado Republican Party has issued a new fatwa for its members across the state: Ignore newly-enacted gun safety laws.

Darcy Schoening

The Colorado GOP’s “Director of Special Initiatives” Darcy Schoening sent out another asinine email with the latest set of directions for loyal party members to follow. Schoening is demanding that Republicans refuse to comply with a new law limiting the ability to carry a concealed weapon in a variety of “sensitive spaces” (SB24-131):

This egregious law violates the Constitution by delineating spaces like Town Halls and other government buildings as “sensitive,” and thereby banning firearms in those venues.

WHEN IT COMES TO OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS, THERE ARE NO SENSITIVE SPACES. If democrats feel sensitive, they should leave those spaces…and go to Cuba. I hear the Cuban government is especially sensitive to guns.

You know Schoening is serious because she uses ALL CAPS. But being angry about a law does not negate your responsibility to obey said law, no matter how many “resolutions” are signed by local governments controlled by Republicans.

We are not a communist country, and we will not be forced into totalitarian control; this is the United States of America, a nation founded on the Second Amendment. We will not comply with unconstitutional laws that strip us of our ability to protect ourselves and our families. As Douglas County Commissioners recently proclaimed, Douglas County is a Constitutional county, like all counties in the United States. People have a right to defend themselves. Douglas County passed a resolution to opt-out of the disgusting SB24-131, and the opt-out allows residents to carry their firearms into Douglas County buildings.

Douglas County’s resolution is not an “opt-out” of the “safe spaces” law, because that’s not how “laws” work. The DougCo Commissioners proclaimed that you can still carry a concealed weapon inside local government buildings inΒ unincoporated Douglas County, which is allowed under a section of the legislation. You cannot, however, lawfully carry a concealed weapon in other public areas in Douglas County, including schools, childcare facilities, and voting locations. And that’s where people might get into trouble if they take Schoening’s words seriously:

Continue exercising your rights in public spaces; we must never comply with Unconstitutional laws. In fact, it is our duty to not comply with this law or any other law that prohibits us from exercising our God-given 2A rights. [Pols emphasis]

We’re just going to ignore the silly “God-given rights” nonsense. Republicans would be wise to ignore everything else as well if they want to stay out of jail.

Schoening’s batshit crazy missive is just the latest in a series of commands from Colorado Republican Party “officials” in recent months.

On May 21, 2024, the Colorado Republican Party issued a ridiculous call for Republicans everywhere to remove their children from public schools in order to prevent them from being “transgendered” by teachers and faculty. That demand, also issued by Schoening, was full of outright lies — including citing the “actions” of a non-existent teacher from a school in Colorado Springs.

A few weeks later, the Colorado GOP went full “Westboro Baptist” by declaring that “God Hates Pride” — a reference to LGBTQ Pride month in June — and calling on people to literally burn Pride flags (which, sadly, appears to have happened).

If you’re having trouble keeping track of what you can and cannot do as a faithful Republican in Colorado, we’ve started a list to help keep you informed:

It’s really not a mystery as to why Republicans have had so much trouble winning elections in Colorado over the last decade.

  1. Oh, goody! She's setting the sheeple MAGAts up to be arrested for going armed into prohibited spaces. How will officials know whom to search for said weapons? Well, the stupid red hats will be a big clue.

    1. Well, it certainly doesn't qualify as a sensitive space, or a sensible space, or a space that includes even one person who has come to their senses.
