Right-Wing Hopes for Violence at Democratic National Convention

  • by: Colorado Pols

The Democratic National Convention kicks off today in Chicago, with President Biden serving as the featured speaker on opening night — a remarkable turn of events from what would have been expected just two months ago.

Instead of Biden closing out the DNC this week with a speech accepting the Democratic nomination for President, it will be Vice President Kamala Harris delivering the penultimate remarks on Thursday from Chicago’s Soldier Field. The ascendance of Harris and resulting enthusiasm for her campaign has been well documented, here and elsewhere. As Kamalamentum continues to overshadow Republican Donald Trump — who is proving to be an undisciplined mess obsessed with making personal insults and rambling speeches — reeling Republicans and MAGA cultists have been resigned to hoping that perhaps Democrats can stop Democrats before November.

As right-wing talk radio host Ross Kaminsky opined over the weekend:

Nevermind Kaminsky’s dumb attempt to couch his hopes by saying that he doesn’t want people to get hurt; he’s just crossing his fingers for, like, a mild to medium outbreak of violence.

This is quite the admission — one that exposes the fading hopes of Republicans in 2024. Yet Kaminsky’s social media post is just one point on the spectrum of dumb takes being fired off by Republicans ahead of the DNC.

Here’s former Republican Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy escalating the ridiculousness:

Ross Kaminsky is hoping for moderately-violent chaos at the DNC, while Ramaswamy is convinced that any potential protests are just deep fakes of some kind.

There’s not much talk of why Trump would be a better choice than Harris for President — just a lot of wishcasting that Democrats might fall down instead.

  1. The GOP is freaking out at the prospect of  their cult leader pissing away the race.  I can see some sharp journalist/historian writing a book about how the party became mesmerized with Trump.  Perhaps the title should be "Descent Into Madness"

    1. Maybe there can be a follow up to the Theodore White Political Classic covering the 1960 campaign.

This time, it would be a single book covering The Un-Making of a President 2017-2024, covering Trump's devolution from his filing for re-election immediately after his 2017 Inauguration to the results of the 2024 general election.

    2. Why do you think they will abandon trump? He cannot lose. Even if he is not the President it wouldn't be because he lost. It was stolen, it was white guilt and racism, we couldn't win really because it was rigged against us by white race traitors who won't vote for a white man. They're so sexist they only vote for women and ugly ones. They are so confused they vote for ugly women who dont need birth control.

I don't think that MAGA will end with trump.
