Emerson/FOX 31: Evans, Caraveo Locked At 44%

A new poll this morning of Colorado’s (and one of the nation’s) most competitive congressional races, Colorado’s 8th Congressional District, shows a race as close as the mapmakers intended when they drew this almost perfectly divided district:

A new poll of voters in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District shows a tie between Democratic incumbent Yadira Caraveo and Republican Gabe Evans.

Both candidates in the competitive U.S. House race have 44% support in the FOX31/Channel 2/Emerson College poll, with 12% undecided.

“Majorities of Republicans support Evans and Democrats support Caraveo, while independents are more split, breaking in the favor of Evans, 43% to 35%,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling. “Hispanics break for Caraveo, 42% to 33%, while white voters are split: 47% support Evans and 46% Caraveo.”

Republican candidate Gabe Evans has campaigned in support of Donald Trump’s controversial promises of mass deportations of both undocumented immigrants as well as many in the country under a temporary protected status. CO-08 is the state’s most heavily Latino congressional district, and as we have predicted for months, those voters do not appear to be impressed with Gabe Evans’ anti-immigration rhetoric. Both candidates enjoy a net positive favorability, and although Evans’ favorability has a bigger spread, he’s also slightly less known than the incumbent Rep. Yadira Caraveo.

The extremely tight race indicated in this poll, while not surprising, means that the attention and spending in this district will only increase in the final weeks of the election. It’s evident from these results that continuing to tie Evans to Trump’s threats against immigrants and reproductive rights is an effective line of attack, and Evans has already done much of the work by voluntarily lashing himself to Trump both before and after the June 25th primary.

Read the full poll results here. The one thing you can be sure of is in this race, every single vote is going to matter.
