  1. "The little open door of each individual's inferior function is what contributes to the sum of the collective evil in the world"

    `Marie-Louise von Franz

  2. "Garbage" and BIOS passwords are two examples of Republicans getting outraged over things they don't care to understand.

The worst thing about these bad faith reactions is that there's no way around them. This is more of playing chess with pigeons.

    1. Bingo. There is nowhere for the password story to go. There was a breach of security which fail-safes prevent from be coming an issue, the party responsible is no longer employed, the system works. What's more as a news story its a dud. Its overreacting elitist who are news junkies getting energized by it.

Similarly trump benefits from low information voters who don't remember he ever insulted anyone his life… I mean they don't want to believe that calling Democrats communist, marxist, degenerate, idiots, enemies of the state… Is the same thing.

“I believe in freedom, rights, fairness, and opportunity,” Chavez wrote. “I believe in the right to love who you want to love. The right to make your own health care decisions, especially when it comes to starting a family. I believe in democracy and protecting our free and fair elections.

“My nephew doesn’t share these beliefs. He holds an extreme, far-right ideology that is, simply put, scary.”

  4. Maybe my mind is starting to fray, but I’m starting to believe the people who say that polling models that were adjusted after 2016 mis-underestimated* support for Trump may now be underestimating support for Harris.  You know, the kind of things one hears from the likes of Alan Lichtman and James Carville and all of MSNBC, not to mention the thriving industry of pocasters and youtubers that sense your hopes and fears and package them back to you as informed analysis.

But maybe it’s true that the modelling hasn’t yet accounted for the effects of Dobbs or that at some point since 2016 the fascination of the novelty that was Trump has now perhaps finally curdled into Trump fatigue.  And maybe young people will actually vote in sizable numbers.

Or maybe we just go on the internet and we seek out and hear what we want to hear, because the anxiety is just too much?  Any thoughts?

    * sneaking in a little homage to George W Bush

    1. If Donald Trump is elected, there will be no way to stop the end of the New Deal, which, of course, is the overarching goal of the entire political right.

The Heritage Foundation doesn't do things by accident. The bankrupting of the middle class and the creation of a "rental housing" boom are just part of the "Free Market Experiment". Look to the "South American Cone" of the 1970s. Naomi Klein spells it all out for us in "The Shock Doctrine"

Trump is no longer counting on winning. The media doesn't want this to be over, but I think Trump will lose decisively, but he (they) will still try to get the SCOTUS  to hand the decision to Congress.

If he has the guts, President Biden has been given carte blanche to "officially" put down an insurrection by any means necessary. It is time to discuss that possibility.

      1. The previous attempt at a coup couldn't even gather people sophisticated enough to have a plan for sleeping and eating breakfast at the ONE complex they were able to temporarily seize.  Once the National Guard laced up their boots and were driven to Capitol Hill, it took about 4 hours for them to gain control, sweep the entire set of buildings free of the Trumpublicans, double-check for booby traps and other mischief, and turn the building back over, allowing the House and Senate to proceed with their duties.

I don't know of any substantial action in the past 4 years where the forces of the reactionary right carried out a significant disruption.  Law enforcement has broken up kidnapping conspiracies, sabotage of the power grid, and threatened action to harm election officials and judges.

Election security has been beefed up.  Democrats control the US Presidency, are Governors of swing states, and (I think) even many of the Republican Governors are not willing to be seen as facilitators of violence. For all the talk of "conservative" law enforcement, many of the departments at the local, county, and state level have shown professionalism in planning for election support.
