If There is Actual Election Fraud, It's Always a Republican

Just kidding!

Warning about non-existent “election fraud” has been almost a requirement for membership in the modern Republican Party. Everything is fraudulent…unless Republicans are winning, and then it’s fine.

And as we found out again this week, whenever actual election fraud attempts take place, it is always — ALWAYS — a Republican who is involved.

Sally Jane Maxedon

From The Colorado Sun:

Two women, one of them a U.S. Postal Service employee, have been charged with stealing mail ballots in Mesa County this year and then fraudulently casting them.

Prosecutors announced Wednesday that Vicki Lyn Stuart, the USPS employee, and Sally Jane Maxedon are suspected of forgery, identity theft and attempting to influence a public servant.

Maxedon told authorities she conspired with Stuart, a mail carrier, to “test” the state’s voter signature verification system by stealing ballots, forging voter signatures on them and then fraudulently casting them.

According to authorities, the two women intercepted the mail ballots this year before they could reach their intended recipients.

Maxedon, 59, is registered as a Republican voter in Colorado. Stuart, 64, is registered as an unaffiliated voter.

There are a lot of other facts that we still need to learn about this case, including who and what influenced Sally Jane Maxedon and Vickie Lyn Stuart to attempt such a boneheaded plan. There were no shortage of election  fraud messages in the 2024 election cycle — and even afterward, as the guy who owns the website formerly known as Twitter opined on Wednesday.

Former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters was influenced by outside actors to some degree when she went so deep down the rabbit hole that she emerged inside a prison cell. Too often, people who know better convince those who don’t that a grand conspiracy is in the works; those who actually pursue those claims are the ones who end up getting hurt the most.

In the end, the facts bear out at least one truth related to actual election fraud efforts: It’s always a Republican.

  1. Chancy “test”?   Passed.

Congratulations, Sally. You just earned your J.E.D.!

Not quite the preferred scientific method, is it? How great a test is it that if your theory is wrong your crimes get caught and the outcome is you go to jail? Or, on the other hand if you’re right, to make that finding public proving your point, you have to confess to having committed crimes, and the outcome is you go to jail?

(Wonder how much longer it’ll be before the county needs additional funding for an elections crimes expansion wing to their Mesa Graybar Hotel?)
