  1. A week and a day. I've discovered that removing Twitter from my life is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Going to maintain FB and keep it largely apolitical (if I can). I'm old enough to remember 1994 (I was still a Republican then) as Newt boasted "the permanent majority" and his "Contesct for on America". Yeah, the family values guy who was cheating on wife #1 with wife #2 while spending hundreds of millions on legal teams to prosecute Bill for a blowhob.  He's later chest on wife #2 with wife #3 and she'd eventually get to be our representative in Rome under Trump. You couldn't make this stuff up.

What's different today is the 1,000+ American billionaires who are dumping money into the Trump marchine and a compromised SCOTUS.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving with the family and see if there's even a hint of remorse (highly unlikely).

In other Colorado news, if you're a movie buff and would like to grab some popcorn and watch the first movie to be produced in Colorado in over a decade check out 'Elevation', a movie I was involved in (EP). We premiered last Monday at the Denevr Film Fest  (along with a private screening for Coach Prime and the CU team) and it released last Friday in theaters nationwide.  It was made possible by the Colorado Film Tax Incentive, designed to draw the industry back to Colorado.  If you go and have the option of buying your tickets on Fandango you can give the movie a "certified review" and it will post on Rotten Tomatoes.  It's filmed in the Boulder / Gold Hill / Copper Mountain / Georgetown mines settings. It's written to have a sequel so we're hopeful we'll return for Part 2.

  2. That quote is great motivation for those impacted by the supporters of Amendment 80 lies to sue. Hold a press conference saying you are investigating the matter, retaining lawyers, advocating for criminal charges…

Hell say it's over the emotional stress and loss of consortium you'll be able to get discovery of all the election emails then toss them in the stew and stir the pot.

  3. Good morning to all…..

As I posted last week, Rob Reiner, aka "pyro boy", is stll MIA. No word from him since last post election day when he emphatically stated Kamala Harris would be elected president. A search of the internet has turned up nothing.  Has anybody any information on his whereabouts or at least where his pile of ashes would be? TIA if you have any info.

    1. He’s currently living in syndication on several streaming services.  Good luck with that.

Also, good luck with that obsessive dim-entia.

      You’re welcome.

  4. "Litmus Tests Likely Explain Who the Fuck is Pete Hegseth" – Marcy at EmptyWheel

Yesterday, Donald Trump picked a Fox News pundit, Pete Hegseth, to lead the largest military in the world.

Trump likely picked Pete Hegseth to run the largest military in the world because would be willing to do with it things that none of his qualified candidates would do.

There’s something else that Hegseth is happy to do that the others are not. The possible choices are gutting the military of women, people of color, LGBTQ soldiers, launching nuclear first strikes, committing war crimes, and treating leftists as terrorists — all are things he has espoused before.

    1. Marcy’s forgetting the biggest consideration — no pesky or inconvenient qualms against ordering military personnel, hardware, and tactics (e.g., spying and surveillance) against American citizens the terrorists within (fka political enemies and noncooperatives).

  5. I've been working on something similar to Matt Yglesias' manifesto:

The Democratic Party Core Values What does it mean to be a Democrat?

I think the critical first step to rebuild the Democratic Party is to explicitly state what it means to be a Democrat. What are the criteria that includes Elizabeth Warren and Joe Manchin, but excludes Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell.

Can you list what it means to be a Democrat? If I asked 10 Democrats, would there be clear agreement? We need to state who we are if we’re then going to sell the voters that we’ll govern well for them. Without clear core values the Democrat label is at best a non-issue and at worse a hindrance for candidates.

        1. If memory serves, its actually called "One Billion Americans."

As appealiing as "essentially free energy" sounds, that strikes me as more than a little preposterous. This is the U.S. We don't do free essentials here. If there isn't ongoing profit involved, it simply doesn't happen here.

As for the rest, we can't provide 330 million citizens with anything remotely resembling "a very nice life" now. The Techbro Gilded Age will need lots of de facto slaves, of course, but there's no reason to believe we can actually pull it off. We've got plenty of room, to be sure, but there's no reason to believe people in Ygllesia heaven will be any more excited to live in a Weaver family shack in northern Idaho than they are now.

And, of course, Americans waste more and generate more garbage than anyone else on the planet. But hey, as long as we got ours, screw everyone else. Right?

BTW, I like your Substack. Keep on writin'!

        2. Per MIT: “Today, green hydrogen accounts for less than one percent of hydrogen production in the United States…about 95 percent of projects in the U.S. are “gray” hydrogen, which is produced from natural gas.”

    1. There are a whole HOST of odd choices apparently under consideration.

Some may even be so outlandish that the Senate would be willing to block confirmation.

Seeker Johnson is apparently worried about Trump taking people from the narrow Republican majority in the House.

      1. Can you say “recess appointment,” boys and girls?

        I knew you could.

Trump’s Demand to Skirt Senate Confirmations Poses Early Test of a Radical Second Term

Over the weekend, Mr. Trump insisted on social media that Republicans select a new Senate majority leader willing to call recesses during which he could unilaterally appoint personnel, allowing him to sidestep the confirmation process. His allies immediately applauded the idea, intensifying pressure on G.O.P. lawmakers to acquiesce.

        —–

Recess appointees who take office without Senate confirmation wield the full powers of their offices until the end of the next Senate session. Each congressional session typically lasts a year, so anyone who receives a recess appointment from Mr. Trump in early 2025 could remain in office until the end of 2026.

        Q.   Have any of you seen any Authoritarians sneaking around here?

        A.  No, no, no sir, of course not.  Nobody in here but just us patriot Make-America-Great-Again Republicans.

    2. Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence?

I'm beginning to think chaos is the actual goal. That's exactly what Steve Bannon & Donald Trump TOLD us would happen: "It will be bloody".
