Denver may learn this week or early next week whether it has been selected over New York to host the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Denver committee organizers are hopeful that our fair city will be chosen, in large part because New York would be such an uninspired choice.

NY is not only uninspiring, but it would send a contradicting message to voters from what Dean has been preaching that the Dems are a new party who will no longer focus solely on high performing Democratic states such as NY and CA.
Colorado and the West is where the White House can be won. Denver is only real choice for the DNC.
There’s no doubt that it’ll be in Denver. The NYC supporters have been giving their bid only token support, whereas Denver’s have been going full bore press, with the press.
Apparently NYC has been very behind-the-scenes, but Denver has to sell itself, according to the article.
I’m hoping very much that Denver gets the bid.
Denver has become the Gateway to the West, and the West will win the White House.

Well, at the very least, having the convention here would help remind the party that the Blue Dogs and centrists have some clout as the Mountain West maintains its critical libertarian-esque streak. 😉
Democratic National Convention is here in Denver, then I wouldn’t have to drive far, and people from throughout the country can come to Denver, I know its not totally in the center but close enough.
Hopefully all Democrats and liberals will come to Denver and protest these Pro-War Democrats. We must make the 2008 Convention look like the 1968 DNC Convention. Lets take back our party back from these people who continue to vote for the war..i.e. Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Harry Reid.
Great idea. Let’s riot in Denver and doom the Democratic presidential candidate as it did in ’68. Let’s get tear gassed and bashed by the Denver PD for no reason. Democrats already want to end the war. 72% of Americans want to end the war. Do you really want to end the war, or just make an even larger mess of things?
….there are segments of the Democratic Party which are nostalgic for 1968……and 1972. The GOP does not have a monopoly on wing nuts!
The actions of the Yippies at the 68 DNC was unnecessary for change at that time. The blowback gave us Nixon. I don’t want a repeat who in our current climate would be a Buchanan. We should learn from history, not to repeat our mistakes, but make better choices from those experiences.
Hillary Clinton…she doesn’t have a chance in the General Election. She may win the democratic primary, but put her up against John McCain and she gets crushed.
People may hate Clinton, but they don’t know why. I like Hilary, she’s intelligent and has done a lot for for NY during her service. McCain, on the other hand, doesn’t stand a chance. He has balked one too many times. He could have won in ’00 if it wasn’t for Rove. He won’t win the R primary.
My guy publicly spoke out against the war before being elected to the US Senate in ’04. Im against the war as well. That’s not the point though.
What I’m talking about is the backlash we experienced from the Yippies in 68. Do you understand what I mean?
Doing the right thing may cause us an election but atleast we do the right thing for our children and their future, don’t you want your party back. These people are no longer liberal. The are conservative Democrats. They care about power and money, not the american people. These people didn’t even take the time to read the intellegence reports before voting to give the power to the President. Do you want lazy people running our government, making decisions for us, representing us. They failed to do there job but since there “Democrats” you think we should vote for them. Bull Shit!
Come on now. I never said vote for someone because they have a label by their name. I agree with you that the war needs to end. I just don’t believe we need another Yippie fiasco like in 68. Protest and voice concerns. Im just trying to get across the fact there are more Dems than the three you listed who will listen, and will 9 times out of 10 agree with you that we need to end this war now.
Don’t take it out on me.
General Colin Powell, he’s done alot for us as a nation too, but that doesn’t mean I’d ever vote for someone who helped in the ultimate lie. Hillary voted for the war. She’ll never get my vote. Have you ever seen your Best Friend get blown up, her skin totally removed from her body? I have, and since these people voted for it without reading the reports, there’s no way they’ll get my vote
No I haven’t and I’m sorry you had to. Again, I am against the war, and have been since before it started in March of ’03. The Dem I am supporting did as well.
Which reports are you referring to? The ones that the administration gave Congress with bad intelligence, or the ones they never given by the Administration and the intelligence community that showed all the rhetoric were lies?
Either way, they did vote for the war and were wrong. I would rather support someone who admits their faults and learns from their mistakes than someone who would act likely nothing happened at all.
have caused thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of lives.
I don’t have anything to say, just want to post the world’s skinniest comment.
You say that Democrats want to end the War? Well the ones that we have elected don’t, look at their voting record. Senator Clinton won’t even say she made a mistake with her vote. Senator Biden wants to put more troops on the ground, and Senator Reid has no clue that their even is a war going on in Iraq since as Leader of the Dems this man rarely talks about it but still continues to vote for it.
Atleast with the Republicans we know where they stand on issues, we know how they’ll vote. They believe in Torture, the believe in distruction of the Bill of Rights, they hate homosexuals, they hate mexicans and any other immigrant with brown skin. Its disqusting when our own United States Senator, Senator Ken Salazar votes for torture (Gonzales appointment to Attorney General), votes for failure in National Security (Condi Rice appointment to Sec of State) and vote in favor of Big Business (bankrupcy bill).
If democrats want to end the war and so does 72% of the population then why is the war still going on, its because most of the 72% and most of the Democrats do nothing to end it. Voting is not enough, we must pressure our elected Democratic leaders to speak out and vote to stop this war. Get off your ass and get noticed. Its the people here in the center of the United States that have to say “no more”. We expect the people in D.C., NYC, and San Fran to protest, but if our elected officials see mass amounts of people protesting in Salt Lake City, Denver, Houston, Little Rock and Fargo then maybe we got a chance to end this illegal war!
takes to end this war, I’ll suck in some teargas. Would you?
I know how aweful this war is for America, our troops, our families and our future. I do not believe we are at the breaking point that neccesitates us sucking in some tear gas. Our elected officials heard our voices at the ballot boxes this year. We want the war to end. We may accomplish the end of the war without unneeded violence on US street corners. We have elected officials we can talk to to bring about change. There are more Democrats in Congress than just Clinton, Biden and Reid.
that Nancy Pelosi didn’t put Kendrick Meek, Debbie Shultz nor Tim Ryan incharge of any committee and these young and bright Congressmen/woman have been speaking about ending this war and how the Bush administration has destroyed our economy for generations. They’re the only ones doing anything. Maybe a few others, I watch them every night on C-Span, keeping the house floor going until late in the evening.
Harry Reid has put Ted Kennedy and Russ Feingold incharge of what committees? These two are the only liberals in the Senate.
Don’t want it in Denver.
Don’t want the disruption to my fair city.
Don’t want my tax dollars being wasted on an event no one cares about.
Let NYC have the mess.
Besides the delegates won’t be able to consume trans fats in NYC and so it will be healthier for them.
,dave
P.S. And, yes, I am being selfish.
Maybe we can attract them to Denver with Trans Fat!
so who needs it? Dean turned me off when he questioned whether Denver could pony up enough $$. Huh??? We’ve got to pay for the *honor* of holding the convention?
The Dems need to get their convention off the coasts more than Denver needs this convention.
convention comes to Denver (which we all know we do NOT need), the ‘left hand threads’ will riot over the injustices of those demon Republicans, and the results will be a total collapse of the Democratic Party for ’08.
WoooHooo.
Then all these touchy feely liberals will go back to the East Coast where they belong.
are you talking about, there are no liberals here in Colorado. Their maybe lots of democrats, but there are no liberals.
Don’t believe everything that Gecko writes. He’s a curmudgeon Republican. He knows not what he writes.
Im not all knowing, I just know your comments on this blog.
If Colorado’s Democratic caucuses go 1/3 for Freakasaurus Dennis again, I’m going to scream.
one of the candidates who voted for the bankruptcy “reform” bill? Or maybe someone who voted to chop the Bill Of Rights up into little pieces, metaphorically speaking?
There is no perfect candidate. Kucinich had a lot of good ideas last time around; I found myself agreeing with most of them, though he wasn’t my preferred candidate. Calling him “freakasaurus” is unnecessary and unwarranted.
is that our options? How about getting a real liberal as our candidate. Ken Salazar not only voted for the Bankruptcy Bill, he voted for Torture…twice! He continues to vote infavor of this War On Iraq. Its pathetic, this man does not represent me.
Thank you for your service. Where did you serve in Iraq?
was in Mosul, Iraq from April 2003-March 2004.
