We hear that Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has told colleagues that he will have a decision by Monday as to whether or not he will run for governor.
Of course, no word on which Monday he might have been referring to.

“…which Monday…”
…………
You are wise, COPols. It’s the only caveat that fits.
;^)
The longer this continues, the more annoyed I become …..decide already.
I’ll be annoyed only if his answer is “no.”
What if his ‘answer’ is, “I’m still pondering.”
or even better,
“I’m setting up a comittee …”
My bet is that after he met with Ritter in December, Ritter told him in no uncertain terms was he interested in campaigning for AG, and Hick went into his patented “Well, gee whiz” mode.
at the ADL awards ceremony today the man introducing Hick said that Hick would be “making an announcement today.” That provoked some laughter and some buzz. I was unable to see Bill Ritter or Alice Madden from where I was sitting but I would like to have seen their reactions.
tremendous luncheon today – I was very impressed by Tim Gill.
Word is that Bob Beauprez will name his running mate ,most likely Lynne Hefley or Nancy Sharpe, on the same day as Hick’s announcement to steal momentum from the Democrats. A little bit of payback for Ritter’s running mate announcement timing.
Beauprez could announce that he’s actually a woman and it’s not going to steal press from Hick’s announcement. The media is gaga over Hick. The only thing Beauprez will do by attempting that is to get his own announcement ignored.
Any truth to the rumour that Bobby B. is going to pick Peggy Lamm as his running mate (in an effort to win back the support of disaffected-over-Ref.C Owens supporters)?
I for one am looking forward to Bob Beauprez’s announcement.
I thought he was announcing on Wednesday…….. of four weeks ago.
Hick is probably sitting in his office laughing at the whole media circus he’s generating by not announcing.
And ya’ know, just because he’ll have a decision by Monday doesn’t mean he has to announce it then…
You don’t end MONTHS of speculation with a press announcement on Monday unless the announcement is designed to bolster a run for Governor. This is pretty transparent if you ask me. I am all for Hick getting in, but I feel sorry for Bill Ritter, who is basically a decent fellow. He trusted Hick’s word to him and that was obviously a mistake.
I think a Hickenlooper-Lamm ticket would be a disaster. Hich needs a credible Democrat to run with him and certainly NOT someone who was proud to support Bill Owens in 2002. If Hick picks Lamm I would be hard-pressed to support him.
Do we really like Nancy?? I don’t get it.
DraftNancy.com? Seriously? There is a definitely downside to GoDaddy.com making domains so cheap…
NS is on the short list, and she is certainly getting a lot of buzz.

Progress Now is hosting BothWaysBob.org through GoDaddy.com as well.
Oh man, what other funnies will show up on this site? Nancy Sharpe’s a great lady, I’m sure, but I’m going to laugh if a reporter actually asks Beauprez about her based on the fun Holtzman’s interns are having on this site tonight. 🙂
Assuming Hick is in (and all indications are going that way), it would make most sense for him to pick a non-metro running mate.
Some off the cuff thoughts:
Bob Bacon from Ft. Collins?
Bill Thiebaut from Pueblo?
There’s a few western slope guys whose names are escaping my sleepy brain at the moment. One was Mayor of Grand Junction and the other was a state senator from Pagosa Springs about a decade ago.
obviously you don’t know nancy. she’d be a tacticly superb lt. gov. everyone loves her and she is – by far – the smartest lady serving right now. kudos to the bb camp for seeing that.
Jumping the gun a bit on those running mates, aren’t you Dan? Still, I think the sentiment is right. Adding a former mayor of Grand Junction to the ticket would be a good pairing for Hick. I’d stay West of the Divide or out on the Plains with any pick; the Front Range cities, though significantly different from each other, can get kind of lumped together…
Nancu Sharpe has a great deal of influence here in Arapahoe County. Bringing her on will certainly help Beauprez clinch Arapahoe.
Sen. Cassidy was the Senator from Pagosa Springs I couldn’t remember last night. I think his first name is Steve (or maybe Shawn)…”half-heimers” is kicking in!
Nancy Sharpe being brought on as a running mate to Beauprez would be a big deal. IF BB offers the running mate position to her, I would be hard pressed to vote against her.
Seriuosly, I can’t belive we’re going into another day were people believe:
1) Hick is really going to run for GOV.
2) That Nancy Sharpe has a chance in hell of being Beauprez’s LT GOV pick.
Both are like Urban Myths. “I know it’s going to happen… But when is a secret.”
Frankly, the Colo. Dems ought to be ashamed of themselves and I say that as a loyal Dem. Bill Ritter, as was stated earlier, is a decent guy; was the first to declare his candidacy; and all he’s gotten is disdain from the “activists” who are the ONLY folks who apply the abortion rights litmus test to candidates. All this pandering to Hickenlooper – also a decent guy – has put both men in tough positions and hurt the party’s chances against weakening Repubs.
I’m reminded of Mo Udall’s characterization of Dems…If asked to form a firing squad, they gather in a circle…
Cassidy’s first name is Sam. He no longer lives on the western slope. Was for a while the head of CACI (before Chuck Berry).
Thiebaut was approached by a lot of people (including union leadership) about running for Governor and he said no. No way would he go for the number two position.
I also can’t imagine that Bob Bacon would be interested.
A woman would be a good idea. Marguarite Salazar from the San Luis Valley would be an excellent choice.
Sam Cassidy is who you mean, Dan. He led the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry about two years. He was briefly lt. gov. under Roy Romer, after the elected Lt. Gov. Mike Callihan resigned in 94 to take over a fried chicken franchise. As Dave Barry would say, I’m not making this up.
Ah, Voyaguer, the old names keep coming back.
Calihan also lost the 3rd CD to Scott McInnis when he should have won. If I remember correctly, McInnis even carried Pueblo County. As a candidate Calihan was a joke.
That was also the race where Calihan’s wife was caught (and I think arrested) for stealing McInnis yard signs in Gunnison County.
I also think the chicken franchise went broke.
You can’t make this kind of stuff up.
Jim Spehar is the former mayor of Grand Junction and barely missed sending John Salazar into a primary election for the 3rd CD. Many 3rd CD Dems were impressed with Jim’s background in economic development plus, he is knowledgeable about energy exploration. He campaigned hard for 3rd CD and became a “known name” on the West Slope. He’d certainly be an asset to a gov’s campaign as a running mate.
Spreher is the best name I’ve heard yet for the D ticket, WestSloper. He’s bright, hard-working, moderate and communicates well. Plus, good balance for a ticket headed by a Denverite, as both D contenders (including six-ways Hickenlooper) are.
