I understand that Strickland was the primary force behind convincing Finnegan to join Hogan (rather than returning to Brownstein) after leaving the City Attorney’s post.
Finegan is probably alright with it, since he’s the new managing partner. I believe the more interesting question is whether or not the managing partner position was promised to Finegan before he left the City.

In my view, leaving the post of managing partner for an office of a big corporate law firm to become a corporation’s counsel isn’t exactly a sea change in priorities.
the firm he can pretend to be fighting for the little guy once in a while and sticking to his democratic roots. By taking this job with a large insurance company he is going to be screwing the little guy every chance he gets.
Managing partner of a major law office makes a lot more money than does a General Counsel to an insurance company.

Do you have any idea how much his salary at UHC is going to be? Keep in mind that Chief Legal Officer, like Chief Financial Officer, is a top executive position at any corporation. You think one of the biggest HMOs in the country is going to pay less than the third largest law firm in Denver?
Unless Strickland will be paid double what the highest paid Chief Legal Officers now get paid he will be taking a fairly major salary cut.

Outside Counsel is a job you take when you are 34 not 54 and it is never a job you take if the Managing partner of a major firm.
Tom was given a gracious exit by a client.
And Strickland took a job as IN HOUSE counsel for the corporation. He was already outside counsel while at the firm. And no large corporation hires a 34-year-old as chief legal officer (chief in house counsel)
There is no way that Tom Strickland is NOT taking a salary cut.
There is no way that Tom Strickland decided to move to Minneapolis and take a salary cut unless he got pushed. I wonder who did the pushing?
The more interesting question is who are the winners and who are the losers at Hogan & Hartson and in local poltiics?
Fact – chief legal officer is a top executive position.
Fact – United Healthcare is a major corporation
Fact – top executive positions at major corporations pay well
Opinion – SIB doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Fact – I’ll change my opinion when SIB shows us anything other than baseless suppositions to support his/her assertions.
…it could be like Affirmed v. Alydar. Tom should know, however, that the 3rd time wasn’t a charm for Alydar.
