Would Wil Armstrong’s candidacy raise a Hobsian choice for the Hotaling Brothers if involved, as reported, in Harvey’s campaign? http://www.americanc…
If the Sleaze Brothers go after Harvey’s opponents, including the son of the former 5th CD Congressman and former U.S. Senator, Bill Armstrong, like they did Lamborn’s opponents in the 5th CD, is Bill Armstrong going to stand idly by and endorse Lamborn again? If Wil Armstrong is not a contender, the Hotalings and Chuch Gosnell and the Christian Coalition of Colorado can afford to leave Wil alone. If he is a contender, if the Hotalings don’t apply their magical sleaze hands to his reputation, then is Harvey going to be happy handing the seat to Armstrong?
but he’s an empty suit. Anybody that spends more than five minutes speaking with him will not write him a check. Wil Armstromg should be 6-1 on The Big Line IMO.
But, sleazy campaign tactics can put empty suits and empty heads in office.
So, my question is, how do the Sleaze Brothers factor into their tactics in the 6th if Wil Armstrong enters the race? Do they throw away Bill Armstrong’s goodwill (if any there is, after more was hopefully learned by him of Lamborn)? I would think Lamborn would hope Armstrong stays out of the 6th precisely because he doesn’t want the Sleaze Brothers after Wil Armstrong. What are your thoughts on this, Lester?
and I know both men. I know Wil Armstrong better since our kids went to school together, but I’ve also spent hours with Ted Harvey. Outside of a clique in Douglas County, I haven’t met many Republicans that don’t see right through the guy. You have a good point regarding Lamborn, but nobody in that race was the son of a beloved former senator. In Arapahoe County, most Party activists will walk through fire for Bill Armstrong and Wil is a sincerely nice man. Add the family wealth and Ted is down for the count. If the boys from the Christian Coalition attack Wil, they might as well kiss their future goodbye because thier backers have more regard for the Armstrongs than they do for Hotaling and Gosnell. All of that being said, history could repeat itself; I just don’t think it will.
He may want to place an interdictory call to Harvey, Chuck Gosnell, Mark and Jon Hotaling, and advise them that if there’s a Sleaze Brothers replay in the 6th on his son in 2008 and other candidates as in the 5th in 2006, that there won’t be enough holy water to put out the fires under their feet. Bill Armstrong cannot now play the fiddle while Rome is burning. For example, assuming, without deciding, that Michael Baller provided funds for the Christian Coalition to do what it did in the 5th CD, has Gosnell–if he did do so with Baller–already started the “kitty” for dirtying up Wil and others in the 6th? See this for what I mean: http://www.coloradop… If someone who is supposedly a close friend of Dr. Dobson and a major contributor to Focus on the Family is willing to fund the antics and tactics of Gosnell and the Hotaling Brothers–an issue which has not been confirmed yet by the press but is in progress, I think–then don’t be so sure that something similar isn’t possible against Wil Armstrong.
but I’m sure that he and his dad are aware of the dynamics of the Lamborn campaign and the character/ambition of Sen. Harvey.
It was my understanding that it was inappropriate to post unsourced rumors on this blog. Has that rule changed? Will Shafroth is running for CD-2 the same way Joan Fitz-Gerald is running for CD-2. Why not make up something saying she “might” be looking at running for Senate? In fact she “may” drop out of the race if she can’t raise the funds that she expected.
It’s one thing to post rumors about who is and isn’t running for office. It’s another to say so-and-so has anonymous sex with truckers in rest area bathrooms, which is the sort of rumor that’s verboten.
I just feel that when it comes from the person who runs the blog, especially when he “cites” himself from another blog, that there is the perception that the rumor has more credibility than if it just posted by one of us. You are correct though that there is a clear difference. Your example is libelous material. The other is not. That doesn’t mean that it is unbiased.
I knew it!
I know the trucker, well he/she/it’s a friend of my friend who’s a trucker, so I know it’s true.
I’ve heard from inside Democratic sources that Trucker is planning a bid to challenge Mark Udall in the Democratic Primary for 2008’s Senate race. Sources say that Udall may drop out of the race if Trucker mounts a strong enough challenge.
Disclaimer: Just Kidding
Trucker is planning to climb all the 14er’s in the state, then challenge fellow physical fitness buff Marilyn Musgrave for the GOP nomination in CD4. The reason I know this before you do is because I have an inside track with the AG’s office.
Or is that like asking whether you prefer plague or locusts?
As in “HarveyWatch”? 🙂
I don’t know the answer to your question, but suspect you’re better off with Tancredo–if that comforts you.
They did Harvey Watch already – it starred Jimmy Stewart.
I’ll retire as soon as Tancredo is eliminated from the prez race and retires or is eliminated from CD-6. I hope early retirement is in the offing.
flowers, or at least a thank you note from Colorado Confidential.
…Liberals are ingrates. Hadn’t you heard?
😉
has already had ‘discussions’ with Shafroth about not running in CD2. A number of offers have been put on the table to ‘entice’ Shafroth to do something else.
I have no knowledge of what you are talking about regarding Polis, but I do know that Will IS running for CD-2. There is no doubt. I don’t know if the purpose of floating these things is to try and convince people that he is not serious about running… but let me dispell those rumors right now. He is running. He is running for CD-2. He is doing all the things he needs to be doing to mount a serious bid for CD-2. Not only that, he is doing the things he needs to be doing well.
As for these supposed “discussions” and “enticements”… maybe Polis will decide not to run when he sees that Shafroth won’t be bullied out. Maybe they crunched the numbers and realized that Shafroth would get more support than Polis in a three way race.
The best person to succeed Tancredo by far would be Wil Armstrong. He’s been successful in business and community service. What we need in that postion is frankly — leadership. If/when the seat opens up, Colorado Pols needs to increase the odds on their sidebar for an Armstrong candidacy and win.
