How many more Republicans will get seats on the House Armed Services Committee while Rep. Doug Lamborn insists he’s “next in line?”
As the Colorado Springs Gazette reports:
Is Rep. Doug Lamborn at the front of the line or at the end? That’s the question regarding a recent opening on the House Armed Services Committee that did not go to Lamborn.
The freshman Republican from Colorado Springs said on his Web site and in a mailer to constituents that he had been given “on leave” status for the committee and would have a seat “when the next Republican vacancy arises.”
It’s a plum assignment for a congressman from a military town such as Colorado Springs. Lamborn’s predecessor, Rep. Joel Hefley, was on the committee 18 years.
But when Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., left the committee to take a slot on the powerful House Appropriations Committee recently, Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa., got the seat…
Lamborn press secretary Chris Harvin argued Lamborn’s assertion he will fill the next Republican vacancy is still valid…
“We’ve been told that the next slot is our slot,” Harvin said.
Or the next one, or maybe the one after that…who is Lamborn failing to impress?

I think Crank just got himself a TV ad and five mailers.
This guy is an embarrasment to Colorado. I hope Crank takes his ass down – he has a lot of ammo now to do so.
Is that Crank needs to find a reason people should vote for him, as opposed to reasons why they shouldn’t vote for Lamborn. At least, that’s why I thought he lost last time.
You may be right. I think what it might come down to in the primary is which way Bob Schaffer jumps. If he goes down there to crack some skulls, making the argument that CS needs to stay unified if he’s going to win the Senate, then I think Lamborn will survive the primary.
but, we told you so.
Doug is truly Dr. ‘NO’.
I’m a Lamborn fan. Even walked precincts for him. But I’m starting to re-think my vote. Where is the guy? Its like he holed up inside a cave.
Lamborn was a guest of the Academy. You have to picture this, a VERY LOUD Crowd and part way through the first half they announce Lamborn is there. The cadets, as you would expect, politely clapped and the rest of the sold out crowd turned silent.
One person turned to another and asked, “Do you think he got the message?”
“Nope.”
Other than a Republican fund raiser, you would think you would have a hard time finding a crowd who would be more receptive to a Republican Congressman in El Paso County than an arena full of Air Force fans. And they gave him the silent treatment.
Other than the Focus on the Family crowd, who are his supporters?
Go Crank! De-Doug El Paso county in ’08!
Do I see signs with a circle containg the name “Doug” and a diagonal line across? What a campaign. What a FUN campaign.
No on Doug Lamborn and No on Doug Bruce!
