Republican Rep. Ray Rose has decided not to challenge Democratic Sen. Jim Isgar in 2006, increasing the likelihood that this seat stays Democratic. From the Montrose Press (h/t to SoapBlox Colorado):
State Representative Ray Rose, House District 58, said Tuesday he will not be a candidate for the state senate. He cited consultations with family and friends and unfinished commitments in the state House as his reasons for not running against incumbent Sen. Jim Isgar, D-Hesperus.
Rose is a member of the Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Resources Committee and the Education Committee. Rose said he may consider the Senate position sometime in the future.
House District 58 covers part of Delta and Montezuma Counties and all of Dolores, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel Counties. Senate District 6 covers eight counties in southwestern Colorado.
