The above video was forwarded to us by a reader who was transfixed by the speech made Tuesday by Colorado Sen. Vicki Marble, in opposition to Senate Joint Resolution 13-027 designating April 9th, 2013 as "Equal Pay Day" in recognition of continuing gender income inequality. We apologize for the bad music, but the stats interspersed make a fine rebuttal to Sen. Marble's remarks. Of course, just listening to her ought to have that effect:
I can say that as a woman and the history of women in my family, we really haven't seen that this joint resolution and the designation of April 9th as Equal Pay Day in Colorado is something we're very familiar with…
Wage advantages for women are tremendous! For every two men who graduate college today, three women do. And college graduates earn almost $30,000 more per year on average than high school grads.
Some that I have found are, hit your hardships and mistakes head on. Take responsibility, and turn everything into a learning opportunity. Never walk by an open door without taking a look into its offerings.
I feel like we've outgrown the Equal Pay Act of 1963. This is 2013. And the women of today are stronger, and more capable and educated than ever. So I would say, we ought to celebrate that, and discontinue the victimization of women. [Pols emphasis]
"Victimization of women?" Was Sen. Marble talking about the billions women employees lose out on each year in Colorado compared to their male counterparts? Is it somehow possible that women college graduates make more than men (answer: they don't)? Maybe you're just not supposed to ask questions about what she meant. Like your crazy uncle, we don't think Sen. Marble is even interested in justifying this stuff.
But safe to say, this was a speech that won't win Republicans back any disaffected women.

Never woulda thought the term "Mansplaining" could be applied to a woman.
Wow, you liberals really hate this, don't you?
What a difference a year makes…Exactly 365 days ago you seemed pretty happy distancing your guy from attacking it:

Apparently it doesn’t matter, like the stupid Etch a Sketch stuff, that Romney isn’t the one who said it?

You want us to admit to hate so badly you can almost taste it, don't you, my goopy little buddy? That's the part that just frustrates the hell out of you.
Unlike you, liberals pretty much make their judgements based on what they think…not what they hate. You see, thinking is a cerebral activity that takes place in the big part of the brain, mostly.
Once the endocrine system takes over ( hate, that is) you start to feel a rise of passion that almost inevitably leads to bad thinking. Remember THAT high school experience?
Now don't get me wrong, ol' buddy…I think passion can be a good thing…but as a servant of love, not a warrior of hate.
Let me suggest you try dialing down the hate a bit, let your hormones chill, and maybe you might get a glimpse of how pleasant thinking can be.
Just sayin'….
What is wrong with you? This was a moving speech about self reliance. She didn't disparage anyone, and the "victimization" comes from a victim mentality. Sen. Marble is a role model for women.
Thank you, Senator! You reflect Colorado values.
Yet she's completely wrong when saying, "wage advantages for women are tremendous"; her entire speech on self-reliance was built on a lie. There is a persistent and continued wage gap between women and men, ceterus paribus, that is generally attributed to a couple of factors, not including gender discrimination. One, women leave the workforce to raise children and are punished for it. Second, women generally take more sick days, to take care of sick children for example, and are punished for it. It can be argued that if women want equal treatment than they shouldn't have children and that would help to reduce the wage gap.
Does the GOP advocate for wage parity by reducing fertility rates? Is your party really that anti-family? Are you also an advocate for the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement? Is that a paying gig?
well played….
Hear! Hear!
Typical Republican trick to play the reverse victim card. Blahhh!!! Boring!!!
The entire premise of her speech was based on Republican denial and lies. Women with college degrees and talent should make as much as men with college degrees and talent. In liberal biased reality it isn't always the case and it isn't fair to those who contribute just as much to the success of the organization. Then there is the whole issue that Vickie won't discuss in public which is her fervrent desire to make sure that all women don't have the right to delay their pregnancies through birth control and contraceptives and you find a Judas in their gender who is trying to stab women in the back with her regressive desire to keep women in an inferior state. Boo Vickie. You're a turncoat on your own gender.
Do you contend that the wage gap is due to discrimination? On what basis?
C'mon, Elliot, use the google. I'm sure you can find the study that demonstrates lower pay despite equal or greater productivity for women. Why do you expect others to do your work?
There is quite a bit of dispute about the pay-gap's source. My understanding, from talking to one labor attorney, is that even if you isolate in studies for education/experience there is an issue of WHEN education was obtained. For example, women may, in aggregate, obtain degrees at a different point than men (post-joining a company) thus resulting in a different annual salary increase result than if they had obtained degrees, in aggregate, at same general point as men.
Teach the Controversy, is it, Elliot?
I can't remember the last time you actually llinked to a study, stats or any other factual evidence of anything to back up your claims, Fladen. Though you love to assign that task to others. "Talking to one labor attorney" is strictly anecdotal no matter how many times you throw in words like "aggregate".
Elliot, that's the same line of reasoning that tobacco companies used to dispute the link between smoking and cancer.
It's a trap! It's a trap! Run-Away!
It's ok, his traps are pretty crude for someone of such schooling.
I'm not fooled by the "No, really…I'm a LIBERTARIAN!" sign, either.
Its more like a big circle going nowhere. I believe he is a Time Vampire.
If the issue is about equal pay between genders then the fact that a woman with a college education does better wage-wise than a woman without is irrelevant. Its meaningless blather. I can see why you like it.
Stockholm Syndrome?
Sen. Marble's comments fall into the "if it hasn't happened to me, it isn't a problem" mindset of the Republican Party.
ding ding ding.
That's exactly where Sen. Marble's comments fall.. Great call.
Looking at her record on "Project Vote Smart", I found the tracks of a young freshman in a hurry to establish some serious hard core "conservative" bona fides.
She's the farm team equivalent of U.S. Senate freshman tedi cruz from Texas. No position too extreme, a "look at me, I'm plenty mean" approach that warms the cockles of those right wing lunatics.
She's on the Education Committee, and voted "nay" on Colorado HB 1081, a Bill that expands sexual education in schools. Another "nay", a NRA litmus test for "good little redleg legislators", on HB 1229, requiring background checks for private firearm sales and transfers.
Her "nay" on 1081 simply proves Gilpin Guy's take on her strategically established "values"..
Exactly is the right word.
