A release just received from leading local political consultancy firm OnSight Public Affairs shakes up the editorial board of the Denver Post, the state's newspaper of record:
OnSight Public Affairs is pleased to announce that Curtis Hubbard has agreed to join the firm as a partner. Hubbard, who currently works as the editorial page editor at The Denver Post, will start with OnSight on June 17.
“The OnSight team has developed an outstanding reputation for their public-affairs and political work. The prospect of working on projects that benefit Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region, while also building a business, struck me as an ideal fit as I considered my next professional challenge,” Hubbard said.
OnSight Public Affairs was founded by Mike Melanson and Ben Davis in 2009 following Mark Udall’s successful campaign for U.S. Senate. The firm’s services include project management, strategy development, communications and message development, as well as online fundraising and social media strategies. OnSight’s team members have successfully integrated their strengths into a diverse array of projects including the Hickenlooper for Colorado campaign, US Pro Challenge, and the Denver Post Community Foundation. “Curtis brings a wealth of experience from 20 years in journalism,” said Mike Melanson. “We are looking forward to working with him to deliver an even stronger suite of communications services for our clients.”
Hubbard's most recent notability came during this year's legislative session, after he confronted FOX News host Bill O'Reilly over homophobic references O'Reilly made about Colorado House Speaker Mark Ferrandino and the failure of a bill in the legislature pertaining to sex offenses.
The Denver Post reports that conservative Vince Carroll has been named editorial board editor, who is, we must assume without evidence to the contrary, less likely to confront the Bill O'Reillys of the world.

There goes one of the last remaining voices of reason at the Denver Post.
Vince Carroll is going to make the editorial page match the newsroom for GOP friendly dunderheadedness.

Honey, does this dress make my butt look big???
No dear . . . it's your huge ass that makes your butt look big!
Carroll isn't nuts but this is still depressing.
When the Free Market ™ works the way VC likes its the tops and anyone that stands in its way hates all that is sensible and good. And when it doesn't it…LOOK SQUIRREL!
Sounds like a perfect fit for the Post to me.
The silver lining is that if Carroll does to the Post what he did to the Rocky Mountain News, the whole paper will go down in a hurry thus avoiding to have to read very many of his self-importance know it all articles.
Curtis probably saw the writing on the wall and bailed for lobbyist job rather watch this train wreck that's about to take place.
I think the problem for the Post is more fundamental. How does any newspaper make a profit in today's market.
Get rid of their most expensive staff, and become a scandal rag. The Post's new business model is almost there.
Not to mention he probably gets paid much better.
