Bye, Boyles

  • by: ProgressiveCowgirl

The least surprising news of the week (okay, it's only Monday) comes from KHOW, where controversial hard-right radio host Peter Boyles has been fired, according to 9News. Boyles was recently said to be involved in a "heated physical altercation" with producer Greg Hollenback. Multiple sources reported that red marks were seen on Hollenback's neck following the incident with Boyles.

Yoda could have warned the notoriously immigrant-bashing, Islamophobic, "birther" radio host that it might come to this:

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

I'll shed no tears for a fearful, angry hater who is now minus a radio job–but I do hope, for the sake of his family and fans, that Boyles has sought any necessary and appropriate care indicated following an alleged violent outburst toward a longtime friend and colleague. If Boyles seeks help and eventually chooses to discuss whatever challenges led him to make a (likely career-ending) move as serious as allegedly attacking his producer, he might do more good for his audience than he ever did as a political commentator.

  1. If I ran a talk radio channel in Denver, I would be calling Peter right now.

This is an enormous (for local radio) amount of money that is lying on the table.

And, I really don't like Peter and his positions at all. Actually, I despise his positions.

    1. Well right now, any station owner is weighing that money vs. what they'd have to pay out for knowingly hiring a crackpot with a history of violence when he assaults another employee……

      1. You get the other employees to sign waivers. Well, that might be illegal. You get the other employees to agree to arbitration and you get to select the arbitor. Or, you get the other employees to agree that it is all the fault of Benghazi.

    2. Hate him or love him, Peter Boyles is hands-down the most significant radio personality ever in Colorado. He actually preps for his shows, and brings in an array of interesting guests. While I respect his current replacement (Caldera), his shows are boring…and I no longer tune in. I hear a rumble in the background…the numerous other radio stations lining up for Peter's number 1 talk-show status (and the adversting money that follows). Oh, and Hollenback, man up…grow a pair!

      1. Can you expand on your last sentence? Sounds like you're blaming the show's producer somehow, rather than Peter "I've read that, I've read that!" Boyles for his actions.

  2. I keep thinking of one of boyles' sponsor….a doctor who boyles said prescribed testosterone to restore "normal levels."  I wonder if boyles double dosed.

boyles could have been a contentor.  I think his productor was the one who did all the real work on the show.

    ….with a whimper.

    1. My first thought was roid rage, given his often discussed problems with addictions I figured he is going down the T and HGH road too fast.

  3. I've been an on and off listener of Peter Boyles since 1986 … he has swung from moderate to conservative on most issues during the last 27 years, albeit a social liberal.  He's a guy you'd love to have as a next door neighbor, sharing a beer.  However, in later years he's become more eccentric.

    1. hawkeye,

There is not enough good stuff to talk about for 2-3 hours. Most radio show host end up spewing a fair amount of garbage. Not to mention, mass media always caters to the lowest common denominator…

  4. The producer must be a really nice guy if he hasn't filed charges. Boyles should consider himself lucky he's only getting fired.

I really don't have the slightest interest in whether or not he seeks help or  in seeing him share his excuses, er, "challenges", with the world, though I'm pretty sure he'll be sharing it all anyway in one of those how I changed my life after screwing up royally books that celebs from A to D level can be counted on to gift the world with after they crash. Yawn. Next.
