Musgrave and Dirty Money?

  • by: Colorado Pols

SoapBlox Colorado has the story today of Rep. Marilyn Musgrave’s connection with former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, who resigned in November after admitting to taking bribes.

Randy “Duke” Cunningham was the talk of DC last week.  The 8-term Congressman from California, described as a “hotshot” and “Vietnam vet fighter jock”, plead guilty and resigned after taking $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors in return for lucrative contracts from the US Government.  Par for the course in the Culture of Corruption.

But Duke’s Dirty hands didn’t just touch California and DC.  As we learned from the Paccione campaign today, $50,000 of Duke’s Dirty Money landed in the lap of Marilyn Musgrave:

Angie Paccione, the Democratic candidate for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, today called for Rep. Marilyn Musgrave to return more than $50,000 in tainted campaign money that Musgrave took from  the political action committees associated with criminal Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham of California. Cunningham recently resigned from Congress after admitting that he accepted $2.4 million in bribes.

Musgrave received over $50,000 from PACs associated with Cunninghams co-conspirator, Brent Wilkes, whose company illegally received $76 million in defense contracts.

“First Musgrave received money from the political action committee of the criminally indicted Tom Delay, and now she has been found holding cash from a confessed criminal congressman. Whose side is she on? asked Paccione.

  1. Must be tru then since it is all that is ever posted here…………all Republicans are dirty money stealing low lifes and all Democrats are pure as the driven snow…….Good thing I’m just a conservative cause I don’t want to be a thief and I sure don’t want to be a puritan.

  2. Marilyn will give back the $50K – just as soon as the slime balls who threw millions in “pink lady” 527 attacks on her apologize for their dirty tricks and donate a matching sum to charities in the district.  Don’t hold your breath.

  3. Have those “scume balls” done anything illegal?

That is why it is called dirty money genius.

Maybe Marilyn just likes getting dirty, she is that type of gal, its not her fault, she just can’t help herself.

  5. Typical, Marshall, no, the slime balls didn’t do anything illegal.  And neither did Marilyn!  Just because the left plays dirty politics doesn’t mean that it’s not dirty politics, however much you try to ignore the slime.

  6. So by your logic if I hold up a bank and give Marilyn some of that money and you would be ok with that.  Because after all Marilyn didn’t do anything wrong.

So how does the logic go here.

The slime balls didn’t do anything illegal but they should give their money back

    But

It is ok to keep the money given to Marilyn from a fellow Republican congressman that plead guilty and resigned after taking $2.4 million in bribes.

Got to love the logic of Republicans

I don?t ignore slime, show me these slime balls have done something wrong and I will have the same problem that I do with Marilyn taking illegal obtained (aka DIRTY) money.

You seem to be the one with the problem of fuzzy logic.

  7. Demograt good, Republican Evil, the Marshall Mantra.  Dirty politics good if Democrat Do.  All politics bad if Republican do.  It must be nice to have a really low IQ like Marshall and see the world through such a simple lens.

  8. When Republican do bad point to Democrats, the Voyageur mantra.  I hold everyone to the same standard and I will call out anyone that tolerates being associated with those conducting illegal activities.  Is that black and white enough for your superior intellect?

  9. C’mon, Voyageur, you know better than to lump all of any one party into a single typecast.  Just because Democrats are laying the corruption mantle onto Republicans like Musgrave doesn’t mean it’s just politics…

I mean, we’re talking money associated with a bribery case already worth at least $2.4 million (Cunningham), on top of some more money originating from a bribery/fraud scandal estimated at at least $80 million (Abramoff/DeLay and friends).  These are both cases where indictments and/or convictions have already been won, and Musgrave’s thick with dough from these corrupt organizations/people.

It’s like keeping money you got from your SO after you find out it came from selling stolen goods.

  10. Remember that ultimately these scandals are about gaining access to and influencing those in power. Of course the Republican’s are knee deep in this stuff – they are in power.

You could bribe a Congressional Democrat with $2.4 million if you really wanted to, that and a $1.50 will get you a coffee.

  11. Oh my! Miss Marilyn–defender of marriage extraordinaire; James Dobson’s Wonderwoman incarnate–is found to be in receipt of dirty money from dirty politicians from dirty donors. Hell, what else is new? If I were a Democrat or a Republican, I might be a wee bit more enraged by this whole thing and the reaction thereto. But, hey… Is this really a surprise to anyone? Politics and the American political process is what it is, man. And, isn’t it really “…time for all good men [women] to rise above principle.” Huey Long said that and it seems to me that things haven’t changed a whole lot since Huey unabashedly revealed the nature of the American political system.

Anyway, Voyegeur, it’s BarBRA not Barbara. And, yes, I recently pulled my gun rack out of my Beemer, but I’m currently using it to hang out to dry all those IP addresses I stole from ColoradoPols. I’ll let you know when the rack is available.

  12. Whose side is she on?  I pray she listens to her unilateral supporters KeepTheMoneyMarylin!  Keep it, hold on to it tight, so you can buy that rocking chair and the slimfast when you are at home in Fort Morgan in 2007.

  13. Where are the Dems?  Musgrave is as vulnerable as can be, and yet neither the Colo. Dem party nor the Nat’l Dem Party has tossed in any endorsements or support!  And where’s Emilys list?  Do you want to take back Congress or don’t you?  MM is weak on the issues, cannot debate, and her only claim to fame is her strong endorsement by Mr. Cheney (approval rating 29%).  She barely won last time with 51% of the vote, when Bush was popular!  The Republicans have her in the top 10 list of seats in jeapordy.  I hope this is not going to be a repeat of the 2004 presidential election where the Dems didn’t show up for the fight.
