  1. According to the Post this morning, the Denver City Council is working hard to make sure that illegal immigrants get the same working wages as U.S. citizens when employed in Denver.

At the same time, we have our Denver Mayor, who swears up and down that Denver is not a “sanctuary city.”

I wonder if the Mayor’s proposal to give housing to the homeless will also include housing for illegal immigrants?

  2. Maybe the DCC thinks that it will discourage employers from hiring illegals.

Here in the Hustings, we call the area encompassing Denver and Boulder “Bizarro World”.

  3. Yes Glock.  I hope you voted no on C&D too, because it’s all just for the illegal immigrants. I hear they are also having the audacity of actually trying to get paid for their work in New Orleans.  The nerve.

  4. They should get paid… but also pay taxes. I have to stand with the other side of the fence on this issue, there is NO reason that someone who does not follow our laws should have access to things like driving licenses, working permits ( just because they are here) and access to free healthcare. If they want to pay for it sure… I am not saying shut them out of the hospital but no free rides for people who break the law.

  5. Do you really think they pay them over the table? Sure thats a way to get busted by the FBI.

It is kind of hard to submit taxes with no SS, Tax Id, Green card or work viza

  6. I agree Dem Guy.  This is not an issue about race, although some try very hard to make it be one.  I think many of the illegals that are here work very hard and want to provide a better life for their families. That however does not make it right for them to come into this country illegally.  Nor should it give them a free pass on taxes, driver licenses, healtcare etc.

  7. ManoftheHour,

The problem is people are giving illegals jobs.  It’s not like the immigrants just showed up and started working for free.

The un-American people here are the contractors and employers who willfully violate federal and state law giving these people work.  Let’s bust the employers, if you want to make a difference.

  8. Since we were talking about the wisdom, or lack thereof, of Marilyn Musgrave going to Denver to collect money with Bush, I thought some would be interested in how Bush’s unpopularity has increased dramatically in Colorado.  The SUSA poll has tracked state-by-state numbers since last summer, and his decline in approval has been rapid.

Do you approve or disapprove of the job George W. Bush is doing as President?

    8/15/95:
    Approve 45%
    Disapprove 51%

    11/14/05:
    Approve: 40%
    Disapprove: 58%

I still say despite her war chest that she’s decided she’ll need the money more than the positive press.  Her negatives are high enough already, so she’ll take the hit of sticking close to Bush and spend her way out via attack ads later.

  9. Our businessmen are so economically committed to illegal labor that their political buddies will keep them from being prosecuted, or even hindered much.  They’ll obfuscate this by saying that everybody benefits from cheap labor, but tell that to the kid who can’t get a cheapo summer job and practice for the working life because illegals have glutted the market.

  10. Do not get me wrong… America has become so high class in the way of thinking. We think well I do not need to pick fruit or mow lawns, I am above that. They sit and collect unemployment, and are happy.

Business people who employ Illegal’s should be shut down… but do you think the govt is going to go after Wal Mart? No.

  11. Beaupreznit – Again you wow us with you total mis – understanding of the issue. Kids can get jobs but will your kids go pull the tops of corn or do back breaking labor… for 5.75 an hour? Nope… nor would you let them.

I know a bunch of college grats working in coffee houses and video stores becuase they cannot get a job in the field of their degree.

    Get a clue man… GET A CLUE

  12. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton both had lower approval ratings than Bush, but I don’t see Democrats running away from any opportunity to get their mugs in the same picture frame as those two.

In other words, Presidential visits/fundraisers play well to their respective bases.

    Beaupreznit,

looks like the Dimocrats are just a popular as Bush.

*** Get your own name*** I did not post this. Too bad you have no balls to post under your own name!

  14. Democratic leadership will be taking a sharp upswing in the near future, methinks.  They’re finally growing a spine, and yesterday marked the initial release of the Democratic Vision (Rep. Pelosi’s page for the Innovation Plan).

Sen. Reid has been on fire lately, forcing the Phase 2 Iraq review and then forcing yesterday’s butt-covering vote by the Senate asking the Administration to report on progress in Iraq.  House Democrats have been on fire in getting moderate House Republicans to cross over the aisle and defeat the obnoxious budget bill.

Democrats are like Buffalo Bills fans; they dump on their own team whenever they’re not at the top of the league standings, then cheer like mad once their team starts doing the right thing.  The GOP base is more consistent; they’ll cheer on the home team even while the team members are stealing their concession food.

But while you’re thinking about that ratings rise, also consider that Dems are up drastically in generic GOP vs. Dem contest polls.  Sen. Orin Hatch of Utah – a GOP stronghold if ever there was one – can’t even get a break; he’s down 45-48 vs. Anonymous Opponent (that’s like Average Voter Guy if he ran for office…)  That spells Trouble for the GOP.

  15. I get the impression that some people think that it’s a worse thing for an employer to hire a hispanic on good faith that his immigration documentation is valid than it is for a foreign national to cross out border illegally and obtain false documentation.

  16. Our ability to stem the tide of illegal immigration is most affected by (1) employers unwilling to take the steps to actually verify their employee’s status, and (2) the forgers and coyotes who enable illegals to come across the border and get work in the first place.

Whether employers or illegals deserve more disrespect is irrelevant; our investment is best spent dissuading illegals from coming here because they won’t be able to find any jobs if we empower and enforce proper employment procedures.

  17. Morgan is going to have a tough fight on her hands to keep her state house seat in ’06. It’s hard to fund a campaign if the lobby doesn’t like you, I’m sure she’ll soften somewhat.

  18. Good grief, we finally get the Holtzman shills to tone it down a little and now the Morgan Carroll for Governor freak is on meth and bombarding us with his silly ideas.  She’s a good lady but one year…half a term…in the House does not a governor make.

  19. kick ’em out,

You are making the false assumption that employers care if their illegal employees have documentation.  They don’t.  It’s mostly done under the table, without any gov’t paper work involved.
