      1. this is not an appropriate time to bring that up.  When he was leading the impeachment inquiry 10 years ago it was, but he had been out of politics for some time now.

And this is from a Democrat who probably disagreed with him on 98% of issues….but I don’t think it appropriate to speak ill of the dead.

        1. Though I pretty much never agreed w/ Hyde, I have family that lives in his district and despite all his hypocrisy he “brought home the bacon” so to speak.  They loved him…and their ardent Dems.

There are plenty of reasons to vilify Hyde…but I think we can sugarcoat them for a day…

          Just my opinion…

        2. Oops, there’s that law we’ve brought up here!

Forgiveness starts with the perp recognizing their errors.  Don’t recall Hyde ever did.  George Wallace did.  I forgive him.

        3. warrants censorship. If Hyde was a hypocrite, then so be it.

If our esteemed elected officials don’t want bad words spoken when they leave this earth for the great beyond, then they should strive to leave a legacy of honesty, integrity, and good works so we can speak good of the dearly departed.

Remember: “What we do in life echoes in eternity.”

–General Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe in Gladiator)

  1. It doesn’t seem like there’s any connection at this time to Lott’s retirement, so I’ll just rack this up to another case of corruption…

Lott’s brother-in-law, David Scruggs, Scruggs’ son, and three associates were indicted today for attempting to bribe a judge.  The judge immediately went to the FBI after he was approached, and the FBI sent him in with a wire, as well as wiretapping Scruggs’ phone.  It’s pretty airtight from the looks of things.

More good riddance to bad rubbish.

    1.    Benjamin Nicholas is his name…….he’s allegedly in the same line of work as Mike Jones used to be……Nicholas initially indicated that he knew Trent Lott, then he took it back.

      1. Take it back, that is. This very same Benjamin Nicholas wrote an opinion piece for The Stranger taking Jones to task for outing the Reverend. His point was, sex workers have one overriding rule and that’s to keep their clients and what goes on with them absolutely confidential, no matter what you know about them. I can understand his viewpoint but I think Jones did a lot more good than bad. But since Nicholas expressed it he’s now obligated to stay zipped up about Lott if it’s true.

    2. Agree.  However, it seems way too coincidential that Trent cleared the stage just before this happened.  It would look very strange if he was now announcing his retirement with this event in the news.  That would really beg the question of connection.

  2. Heard through the rumor mill that Wayne Wolf is dropping out of the Senate race and concentrating on challenging J. Salazar in CD3 instead.

    Anyone else heard this?

    1. been in a post all week ?

      just ’cause there’s no news,

      that’s no excuse.

      Somebody, make something up.

  3. I had a chance to chat with Ken Salazar for just a brief moment recently, and I was pretty shocked at how thin, and almost frail he seemed.  Some of you run in those circles – is he fighting any health issues?

    1. Rudy isn’t gone, but this will hurt him a lot. So now all the big states on Feb 5 are wide open, and with Rudy still in there.

Huckabee is competitive with Romney for the religious vote. McCain is now credible again, and all 4 have a shot.

What a mess for them. I love it.

      1. Giuliani’s worst problem with this is that this story will keep on giving up until the election.  We are no longer talking about possibly mis-charged money; we’re talking about defrauding the government.  That means investigations, grand juries, indictments – lots of press opportunities.

    2. you do realize we live in the untied states of uhmerika, right?  I’d bet my girlfriend’s cat that Rudy stays just as viable of a candidate despite this.

Should this be a blow to his candidacy?…absolutely.  But when was the last time people gave a hoot about elected officials breaking the law?
