Good News in the War on Spam

  • by: Colorado Pols

There have been a couple of hack attempts on this site in the last week. They were not successful in breaking in, but they did do some damage as most of you have seen. Perhaps they’re related to a certain conversation from a few days ago, we’re not going to speculate. Shame on whoever you are, though, and we’ve beefed up security to prevent any incursion attempts like this in the future.

It will also please our loyal users to see that last night, for the first time in months, there were no spam comments or trackbacks posted to Colorado Pols. We’ve been at war with the spammers, and some of the solutions we tried weren’t very popular. We’re hopeful the spam can be kept at bay now without inconveniencing our legitimate users — but please note that if your comments contain an unusual number of hyperlinks (not to mention references to penis enlargement pills), they’re unlikely to ever see the light of day.

Please let us know if you experience any trouble, and like Tom Bodett says, “we’ll leave the light on for you.”

Update: TypeKey users are generally exempted from the spam filter, so if you’re worried about your comments being filtered for whatever reason we strongly suggest you use it.
