The recalls in Pueblo and Colorao Springs were low-turnout elections, where success came to the recall because Conservativees were successful at getting out the vote among intense, single-issue voters. The Republican Party has long used extremist rhetoric to target certain segments of its base: racists, gun fetishists, fetus-people, anti-gays, anti-science, anti-government, etc.
My question: Where was the fanatic base of voters who should have supported Angela Giron and John Morse? What issues did Giron and Morse advocate that create passion and intense loyalty? Who are the voters and voting blocs that are guaranteed to turn out to support you?
Maybe Giron & Morse are nice people. Maybe they have some friends. Maybe they have constituent outreach and many people in their district knows them personally. Maybe their votes and positions have support among a lot of people. But, somehow Giron couldn't get 20,000 supporters (the yes vote was 19,355 in SD-11), and Morse couldn't get 10,000 supporters (yesses in SD-3 were 9,900).
But, again, what do Giron and Morse do, say or stand for that would create a passionate following in their districts?

Oh for god's sakes. What you call temperment, I call extreme apathy. There are issues that bring out Democratic voters: gay rights; reproductive rights; voter supression (Afro-American voters responded with incredible turnout against these efforts). Overall, there is no party unity in the most state dem parties, now. Not that the republicans do much better. The passion in that party is in the tea party element and less you dismiss that, that is how the repubs, IMHO, won the recalls and won in 2010.
El Paso County Clerk Wayne Williams says to his knowledge, nobody besides Caldara has even tried this, because the circumstances where one could even plausibly attempt it are in fact quite limited. Has Williams refer Caldera for prosecution? Does anyone know what is going on with the Caldlera registration in El Paso?
