Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

In the immortal words of AC/DC:

“Concrete shoes, cyanide, TNT

Done dirt cheap

Neckties, contracts, high voltage

Done dirt cheap”

Dirty deeds seem to be something of common practice among elected Republicans in this state with Coffman’s latest conflict of interest scandal, the Beauprez campaigns amazing effect to continue it’s downward spiral with coordination charges being raised more than a year after the election, and of course Doug Bruce who is simply a scandal waiting to happen.

But not to worry, Colorado Republicans are not alone in their race to the bottom since this practice has been quite common among elected Republicans since Nixon’s re-election campaign (which Karl Rove worked on).

What has been learned from all this for the up-coming election? Scrub the past.

As reported over at Colorado Confidential Stop the Presses! Bob Schaffer Has a New Web Letter!

It’s the end of December – time for the monthly Bob Schaffer for U.S. Senate Web site watch. And guess what? The presumptive Republican nominee has a new “letter” up asking for money. The bad news is, after eight months in the race, Schaffer’s site is still so rudimentary he doesn’t identify any of his positions on actual issues.

Beginning back in June, then in July, then in August and September, we wondered why Schaffer, a former three-term Congressman and current member of the state Board of Education who wants to represent all of Colorado in the U.S. Senate, was running.

He has a Web site, which includes only a biography, icons to click on to volunteer or send money, and a letter to potential supporters. But nothing on the issues – national or regional. His position on the army’s controversial proposed expansion of its  Piñon Canon training site? Who knows? The environment? Global warming? The War in Iraq? Education? The cost of the War in Iraq? The deficit? Drilling the Roan Plateau? Colorado’s pine beetle infestation? Waterboarding? The assassination of Benazir Bhutto? Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’ failed efforts to get himself elected potentially indefinitely? Health care? The subprime loan crisis?

On issues broad or narrow, Schaffer’s just not publlicly saying.

By contrast, his presumptive opponent, Democrat Mark Udall, has had his Web site up – including extensive positions detailing a broad variety of issues – since shortly after his announcement in mid-April.

By mid-October, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee picked up on Schaffer’s lack of specifics and created a spoof Web site, BobSchafferOnTheIssues, which detailed a few of Schaffer’s past positions on various issues of current events.

At the cusp of the new year, a full eight months in, Schaffer still hasn’t publicly identified his positions on a myriad of issues of current events facing Coloradans, and his Web site still has just four icons – to volunteer, give money, a biography and a general letter.

But … and hold tight here … the letter appears new!!!

Before, Schaffer spent his introduction railing on how Democrats didn’t win the 2006 election – rather, he insisted, the Republicans lost it. And he focused on the alleged left-wing juggernaut at work in Washington – criticizing by name those “activist-Democrat leaders” like Senate President Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

In his current letter, Schaffer takes a new tact, including dropping the criticism of Pelosi and Reed by name and even, without any self-admission, offering up criticism about such partisan political bickering. Here’s part of his letter.

That’s right, forget everything Bob Schaffer has ever said or done , and don’t mind that man behind the curtain!

As if the first letter from Beauprez’s campaign… excuse me… Schaffer’s campaign wasn’t pathetic enough, now they are scrubbing the history they had already re-written.

Apparently the lesson learned is “dirty deeds done dirt cheap” will always win elections… right? Here’s to a new year of new dirty deeds done dirt cheap!

  1. of concern is the number of people that will vote for him simply because of the R behind his name.  To them, it matters not what he stands for on any issue.
