"Your Tax Dollars At Work in Jeffco"

  • by: Colorado Pols

The Denver Post opines:

Special prosecutor Don Quick said last week that he didn’t have enough evidence to prove a crime was committed when Jefferson County hired private investigators to tail a county gadfly.

Maybe it’s not a crime, but it sure seems like a big waste of money for activity that raises ethical questions…

The county spent $7,462, mostly to follow and run background checks on Mike Zinna, a longtime county critic…one bill is for a two-man surveillance team that followed Zinna to his home. The invoice notes that it was for address verification and surveillance.

For 11.5 hours, the investigators watched Zinna go to a dealership and ride a motorcycle, eat lunch at a cafe, take his dog to a park and kiss a woman.

How this relates to Zinna’s litigation with the county is a mystery. But the county coughed up $2,043 for this information.

Your tax dollars at work.

Even though Quick’s investigation is over, a related probe continues. The Jeffco sheriff’s office is investigating the disappearance of county files that are said to have contained information about Cinquanta’s hiring and perhaps other matters…

Jeffco officials need to find a way to conduct county business in a way that engenders the trust of county residents.

  1. Colorado’s bid for most corrupt county in America needs to be cleaned up.

Auburn, McCasky and Congrove (the Jeffco Asses of Evil) ran the county as their personal sewer.

We replaced Auburn with Kathy Hartman and she was named Freshman Commissioner of the Year. This year we finally get rid of the other two, and then maybe the banana republic of Jeffco will finally join the democratic free world.

  2. The political math is a piece of cake in Jeffco. 1/3 Dems, 1/3 Repubs, 1/3 Indies.

The 2008 Dem candidates against the two republican commissioner candidates (Congrove, McCasky or whomever), will get: all the dems (out in force), virtually all the indies (also out in force and breaking left), and probably half the Reps (sick of their own stinking brand).

Virtually anyone with a pulse could win against the two dirtiest politicians in Jeffco history. And I hear the Dems aren’t taking any chances. The rumor is they may be teeing up ex-Jeffco 12-year District Attorney Dave Thomas to lead the charge to the Taj Mahal.

Bye-Bye McCasky and Congrove. See you on the chain gang.

    1. Thomas knew that this race was coming, and he chose to run for the Jeffco School board.

I am not saying it is impossible, but it would seem odd for him to wage that campaign only to turn around a few months later to run for something else.

I was talking to him about his plans back in the summer, and he said he was done with partisan races. I wouldn’t count him out forever, but I don’t see it happening so soon.

A safer bet might be Cheri Jahn.

  3. I recently pulled a document indicating that Zinna had won or was about to win a large judgment by default from the proprieter of “ColoradoWackoExposed.com” in Zinna v. Cook.  I have Zinna’s complaint & the Entry of Default, among other things, at my News & Comment page (see the 10/24/2007 entry).
