Will Run for President Cost Kucinich House Seat?

Check out this story from The Cleveland Plain Dealer:

Cleveland Councilman Joe Cimperman hoped to get noticed by showing up with a camera-toting campaign worker two weeks ago at the Lakewood congressional office of his rival, Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

Instead, Cimperman got the unwanted attention of federal authorities, who questioned him this week about the visit.

Kucinich, who is trying to defend his seat against Cimperman and three other Democrats in the March 4 primary, asked a federal agency to investigate the camera stunt, saying it broke federal law.

Kucinich made the request after Cimperman delivered a “missing” poster to his office on Jan. 3. Cimperman was mocking Kucinich for campaigning for president around the country.

He tacked posters featuring pictures of Kucinich to poles near his Detroit Avenue office. They said: “Last seen: Iowa and New Hampshire – anywhere but Northeast Ohio.”

Cimperman entered Kucinich’s office while a campaign worker taped him dropping off one of the posters at the front desk.

Criticizing Kucinich for not being supportive of his constituents could be a strong message, particularly when Kucinich’s campaign, which obviously has no real shot of winning, can be called a vanity campaign.

The March 4 primary is coming up quickly, and Kucinich isn’t helping himself by raising Cimperman’s profile. Cimperman had raised $226,000 for his campaign as of early January, while Kucinich had less than $4,000 in his congressional account at the end of Q3. It’s tough to see someone with Kucinich’s name ID losing a primary, but the right message and money could certainly do it.

  1. Be The Change, that group of five or so that hold meetings at the Mercury Cafe will go into mourning if Kucinich loses. Kucinich the pro lifer the far left loves is on an ego trip that will again derail his political career. Unfortunately, the Mercury Cafe crowd cannot vote in an Ohio primary nor will they financially support his reelection.

          1. When we had a Coats and Cans for Votes Primary Poll here in Prowers County, I gave some of my voting stickers to my son, since he had helped carry in the heavy stuff.  He’s developmentally delayed and didn’t really know a lot about the individual candidates.  But he voted for Gravel in the end, because his name is Mike, too, and Mikes have to stick together. 🙂

So Mike Gravel came in fourth in that Prowers County contest!

  2. He has reminded us all how sexy tongue studs can be, and how tantalizing an Australian accent can be. He has also given hope to hundreds of thousands if not millions of average-looking, short, middle-aged men like me with bad hair that they, too, might someday, somehow, have an incredibly hot, intelligent young female with gorgeous hair fall in love with them. For that alone, he will forever be remembered.

    1. Actually, Elizabeth Kucinich is British, not Australian (at least according to Wikipedia).

However, I will agree that Dennis and his wife do give nerds, dorks, geeks, wonks, and other men of all stripes hope.  Truly, he is a uniter, not a divider!
