A press release from Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair Steve Israel today acknowledges what you already know about Colorado's 6th Congressional District race, listing Colorado's 2014 marquee congressional battle in the first round of the DCCC's "Red to Blue" program.
In total, 35 districts are part of the initial list in the Red to Blue or Emerging Races programs. Of the 16 candidates selected for Red to Blue today, 10 are women. Chairman Israel announced that three districts with multiple Democratic candidates have also qualified for Red to Blue. In addition, Chairman Israel announced 12 Emerging Races and four Emerging Districts, where campaigns are on track and working hard to put seats in play…
“There’s no question – these candidates are on the side of average Americans, and they’ve shown throughout their careers that they’ll work together to help make the middle class more financially secure and solve our problems – the exact antidote to the flawed priorities of this broken Republican Congress,” Chairman Israel said. “These candidates earned their places in our battle-tested program because of their hard work and the competitive nature of their districts, and we will continue to work with them to build and execute winning campaigns.”
In 2012, Democrat Joe Miklosi was lucky to make the cut for the "Red to Blue" program, which steers national Democratic resources both directly and indirectly to key races. This year, the listing of Andrew Romanoff is more of a foregone conclusion. Romanoff's so-far excellent fundraising, even besting dollar-dialing powerhouse incumbent Mike Coffman in the fourth quarter of last year, means that this year will be no repeat of 2012–where underdog Miklosi still managed to perform much better against Coffman on Election Day than expected.
This year, Mike Coffman's swingiest of swing seats is on everybody's list.

Even if Dems know they can't get to a majority in the House, that doesn't mean they don't want victories there to point to and a smaller gap. Romanoff, with funding coming in demonstrating that he's a highly formidable challenger in a vulnerable district, will get plenty of national party support. If Colorado comes out of 2014 with a Dem Guv, two Dem Senators and having flipped our House delegation back to majority Dem, that will be a great positive in a difficult election year and the Dem party needs as many positives as it can get. Game on.
Hmmm. I just had a problem too. At first, even though I knew I had left a comment here it still said zero. Then I got the undefined thing while logging in. When I got the log in box the little symbols representing my password disappeared and I had to re-enter it. After that I got on and my comment was there after all. I'm assuming some housekeeping is being done after which people will stop having so many problems?
I'm not having any problems on my computer, but my iPhone is still showing yesterday's stories. It's quite strange.
Just signed back on. Nothing strange. No problems. Waiting to hear another update from ColPols.
Nancy Pelosi
Crap! I meant to say more than that.
On second thought, I don't need to. 🙂
You forgot "Benghazi!" And maybe "Death Panels!"
(just trying to help out)
How about some examples of exactly what it is that makes Pelosi so evil? Or is it just supposed to work like saying "abracadabra" or "socialism"? Regardless, you are aware of what a huge failure tying candidates to Pelosi has been in the past for the simple reason that average voters couldn't name the House Minority or Majority leaders to save their lives? Better to stick with Obama. At leasty even the lowest info voters have heard of the President. Oh wait. He won CD6 easily in 2012. Back to the drawing board?
Right now, this campaign is about the politically savvy. And Pelosi is very well known among readers of political blogs. 🙂
It was Pelosi who told America that we'll just have to pass Obamacare to find out what's in it. Now that Americans know what's in Obamacare, they're enraged. 60% in Colorado by the latest polls…
Like I said, and has been demonstrated in past attempts to use her as a scare tactic, average voters don't kow who Pelosi or any congressional leader is. Obama won CD6 by five points even though ACA wasn't polling well then either. Miklosi did great for a huge underdog. Anything might happen in November but those are the facts.
Not-terribly-swift Coffman is finished. Start packin,' Mikey.
