Bruce Blusters Bill Into Submission

  • by: Colorado Pols

As the Denver Post reports:

A 20-minute rant by Rep. Douglas Bruce temporarily derailed a bill Thursday that he said unfairly targeted his late start at the Capitol.

Bruce – taking the unusual step of testifying against another lawmaker’s bill – talked long enough to force the panel to put off voting and delay the next committee waiting to use the room.

Adding to the drama, Bruce was testifying before the committee he was booted from after refusing to co-sponsor a resolution honoring the military…

Bruce postponed his swearing-in until the legislature’s fourth day so he would serve less than half of a two-year term.

The distinction means he can run for an additional eight years in the House instead of six.

The move irritated House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, D-Denver, and House Minority Leader Mike May, R-Parker, who urged Bruce to show up on opening day.

Bruce said Thursday that trying to change the law makes it look like he did something wrong. “Is there any real problem to be addressed?” he asked.

He said a mouthful with that last bit, didn’t he?

  1. Hell no.  If he had, he wouldn’t have a chance to be re-elected.  As it is, those CRANKy Republicans and others like them supporting Waller against Doug won’t stand a chance. Bruce takes his seat and will for 8 more years.  Get over it.

    1. The guy won’t be able to be honestly elected for dogcatcher two years from now. He only got his seat through back-door shenanigans that the shenaniganders are already regretting.

    2. You see, to be “re-elected,” you have to first be elected.  Bruce has NEVER been elected to the legislature and is unlikely to ever be.  He twice lost a Senate primary to real Republicans, Ray Powers and Ron May, true conservatives not military hating, buffoons like Draft Dodger Doug.  He bullied a vacancy committee into appointing him to serve out Cadman’s seat but now faces yet another real Republican, veteran and Reservist Mark Waller in the assembly tomorrow.

  2. His last two days of free advertising in the Gazette and now today’s ranting (remember, it’s always somebody else’s fault and his only concern is himself) means that the the County Assembly is getting close.

He must be worried about the Assembly – that is why he is trying so hard to get all the publicity he can before tomorrow.

Please, Please, Republicans in HD-15: help us get some of our self respect back and boot Doug out!

  3. that he didn’t do anything wrong, then why is he trying to block it?

People that talk good about Bruce haven’t been around him enough. The guy has no remorse on anything that he does. Haven’t you noticed that he is the ONLY one that is NEVER WRONG?  He certainly can spin it to make him look good.

His interpretation of things is sure different than mine, but remember, HE ALWAYS TELLS THE TRUTH!
