UPDATE: details here.
CD-2 candidate Jared Polis is in Washington, DC today to join several other congressional candidates in a major new Iraq policy initiative.
Sparse release follows: what we know about the plan they’ll be announcing is that it calls for no residual combat forces in Iraq (a key point of contention), a “diplomatic surge” of engagement with regional powers akin to that called for in the Iraq Study Group plan, and a “phase-out” of the use of private military contractors in combat zones.
Many local observers will be inclined to write this off as another Polis publicity stunt, but we understand what he’s signed on to in this plan is quite a bit bigger than his campaign, and will be aggressively promoted by national bloggers and think-tanks in the coming months.
Looking at the list of candidates Polis will be sharing the dais with, we find a number of known and respected Democrats in competitive fights against Republicans–but we’re not aware of any of these candidates facing a hotly contested primary like CD-2, certainly none who are playing catch-up with frontrunners as Polis is.
We’ll post the details once they’re released this afternoon.

I was wondering how Mr. Boulder was going to spin his terrible weekend in Boulder and Jeffco.
So I guess he’s hoping we all forget, and instead focus on his Iraq vacation. Looking forward to a press conference from “congressional candiates.” Sounds quite important.
Looks red to me.
Just to clarify.
Gen. (Ret.) John Johns
Gen. (Ret.) Paul Eaton
Capt. (Ret.) Larry Seaquist
Cmdr. (Ret.) Eric Massa
F’ing traitors, every one.
Yellow. Like Bush and Cheney.
My guess is JFG and/or WS could join it too if they also campaign on all troops out. This idea is getting major play on all the major left wing blogs, both to support the candidates and donate to them.
I think JP may be the only candidate in a primary doing this which is interesting. This could definitely help him, especially if JFG & WS don’t join.
And how many of those “netroots” voters are in CD-2?
You have to give Jared credit, he has flexed his network and it is impressive. He has spread cash all around the country for years, and opportunities like this are a result of all that good will.
The problem for Jared is that this coalition essentially means nothing.
He needs to do something that shows voters he is serious about working in Congress. He is the youngest candidate in the race. How about a message like, “I’ve made my millions and now I want to focus on giving back to my state and country for the next twenty years.” And “I’ll waive my salary and donate it to the poor while I’m at it.”
If Jared wants to win he must prove he won’t be excusing himself from votes and committee meetings for cell phone calls.
His campaign thus far has been pure bluster in this readers opinion – there’s a reason JFG has been stomping him and that’s because people know she’s dead serious about the job.
Time for him to cut his losses.
On caucus night Jared was saying that he had the “big mo”
Than he got whooped in every county but one.
What happened to his grassroots, net roots and field organization. Not to mention all the money he spent on TV and direct mail?
A majority of Clinton delegates voted for Fitz-Gerald. A majority of Obama delegates voted for Fitz-Gerald in the biggest turnout ever.
Whatever Jared Polis is selling no one is buying. I wonder if Jared even saw this one coming or if he is just like a mushroom being kept in the dark and fed bs.
They were down by as much or more 5 months before the presidential primaries started. Jared has 5 months to gain 10 points. That’s difficult but by no means impossible.
The fact that you intensly dislike him is no reason for him to drop out. Jared’s in the race, he has a good chance – deal with it.
You are right there is plenty of time to turn things around.
Jared made winning top line his number one priority. Jared had by far the largest campaign staff and than hired temporary staff, aired TV spots and did lots of direct mail. Don’t blame me because your candidate’s message and organization failed so miserably. How could he lose so badly in his own backyard?
Especially with a great Democrat like DavidThi08 helping you out.
All the money, advertising and PR in the world can’t turn a bad candidate into a winner.
What I don’t know is whether Jared has the personality to win this thing. He’s so far left and so irresponsible on Iraq that I hope he loses.
I see this post several times per day. I truly don’t need “advertising saturation by blog post” – it’s a turn-off.
How do you spend over $l million dollars and get beat so handily?
