"Fix" Friday Line Moves CO Senate Race to #3

  • by: Colorado Pols

That’s #3 most likely to switch, as the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza reports:

3. Colorado: After the 2006 election, Republicans hoped they had heard the last of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. They likely have not.  The revelation that a 1999 trip by former Rep. Bob Schaffer (R) to the Mariana Islands was arranged in part by Abramoff’s firm led to several weeks of bad press for the Republicans’ nominee in this open seat race to replace Sen. Wayne Allard (R), who will retire after this term. Both Schaffer and Rep. Mark Udall (D) are now on television with ads introducing themselves to voters.  Colorado is a state in flux but how much has it changed?  This race should tell us. Udall has an edge. (Previous ranking: 4)

    1. Schaffer has been flawed since he entered the Colorado legislature pretending to be a Republican.

      He’s not a Republican, he’s a radical.

    1. He could have come up with a funny, self-deprecating response, but instead he remained silent (as usual) and let that whiny, petulant Dick Wadhams speak for him. And to make matters worse, Wadhams “blamed the little guy”.

Schaffer could have said something like:

“When they showed me the stock ad, I thought that mountain looked too small to be our wonderful Pikes Peak!”

“I did propose to my wife on top of Pikes Peak, not McKinley. But I felt like I was on the tallest peak in the world.”

“I don’t know how we could have mistaken that molehill for our majestic Pikes Peak!”

“Yeah, we goofed. Even worse than you know: we actually shot that ad on location!”

“I’m in big trouble: Now my wife is wondering whether I proposed to someone else on top of McKinley!”

I know, pretty lame: but it’s the best I could come up with in three minutes – and I’m not a highly-paid political genius.

      1. They always seem to throw someone else under the bus for their mistakes; workers in the Mariana’s, Democrats 527’s for  losing control of Congress, and now even the ad firm is blamed for a simple ad screw up which should have been resolved by the campaign before going to the station.

The candidate from the party of personal responsibility sure knows how to shift the blame onto everyone else problems caused by his actions.

        They’ll never learn.

      2. A few seconds of Schaffer, a boyish grin on his face, laughing it off and saying “I love Colorado, it means everything to me and my family,” would have run along with the ad comparisons on TV. He really missed a chance to fix this outright.

        1. She was never willing to speak to her financial history and so it hurt her worse than just talking about it.

Bob also seems incapable of admitting to a mistake, not matter how insignificant. And so he makes things worse.

And by hiding and refusing to take ownership, he causes it to fester.

This is the oppisate of Jared Polis who does accept responsibility for the mistakes his campaign has made, speaks to the issues on each, and addresses it. And with that, puts them to rest.

Bob Schaffer, you’re no Jared Polis.
