Good work, dear readers. You got yourselves in the news. From the Rocky Mountain News:

Rep. John Salazar downplayed speculation today he might be mulling a run for governor in 2006.

Rep. Salazar, a first-term Manassa Democrat, released a brief statement in response to anonymous postings on the web log ColoradoPols.com suggesting top state Democrats had asked him to run.

“Other people have considered it. I haven’t,” Rep. Salazar said. “I’m too busy working for the people of the 3rd congressional district.”

The congressman’s brother, Sen. Ken Salazar, faced similar speculation earlier this year, but he has since ruled out a candidacy. With just over a year until the election, former Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter is the only announced Democrat in the race.

The Republican field includes Republican Rep. Bob Beauprez and former University of Denver president Marc Holtzman. A seed potato farmer, Rep. Salazar has occasionally voted with Republicans during his nine months in Congress. He holds a GOP-leaning district that could be one of the nation’s biggest battlegrounds in the 2006 mid-term elections.
