Why do you use Jesus for political gain? Where in the Bible does it say that Jesus’ name should be used in such a manner? Just wondering?
As for Fawcett, I think he has an uphill battle. If Joel runs again he will be a lock for the seat because of his work on behalf of the military, not only in the Springs, but accross the country. If Joel does not run, it will make the race slightly mor competative, but the voter registration in the 5th CD as of August is 183,214 R, 123,933 U, and 86,567 D. Those registration numbers mean that there is almost 20,000 more R’s in the the 5th than there are D’s in the 1st CD.
The numbers don’t lie and as bad as the Democrats would like to win in Colorado Springs I just don’t see how it is going to happen.
First – it was a just a question with no political motivation except I am sick of seeing good veterans like Fawcett get smeared. And just as I figured the post right after it is classic swift boat strategy.
Second – Am I seriously getting lectured from a Republican about not using Jesus for political gain? When the Republican party stops using the sanctuary of God to hold justice sundays then you can get back to me on that one.
The Republican chickenhawks are going to try to smear another honorable Vet. Don’t take it laying down Fawcett.

Excuse me? I think I remember Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Sharpton, Jackson, and so many other Dems preach from the pulpit of churches in an effort to sway votes.
Also, I didn’t say that Jesus couldn’t be used in politics in a positive manner; I think he should not be use in a negative connotation by Republicans or Democrats. God doesn’t fit into the boxesthat men make. he is not a Democrat or a Republican.

I don’t know what party Jesus belonged to, but Athena is a Republican! Warrior goddesses have no place in today’s pacifist Democratic party.
An open race against a half plausible Democrat with a bit of fight in him will at least drain coffers from Colorado Republicans other races in the state. Real fights in places like the 4th and 5th CDs that the GOP should be able to take for granted steal resources from fights in places like the 3rd and 7th CDs where the GOP should be fighting real battles.

Let’s recap something here. Gore may have just been a journalist in Vietnam, but he was in Vietnam, Kerry was in Vietnam, which is much more than I can say about Bush, who supported that war but didn’t want to fight in it. Same thing with Cheney,DeLay et. al. Clinton didn’t fight either, but he didn’t support it. But my point is, where were all these pro-war politicians when they were called to serve? They didn’t go to Vietnam, and now, a generation later there are many conservatives that are pro-Iraq War, but they would never serve, nor ask their children to serve. In my book, that makes them chickenhawks. Jonathan, if you belive in this war, why are you here posting on a blog and not over there fighting for your country?
As for preaching, I have never heard Dems preaching and utilizing churches or a religious base the way the Republicans have done for the last 5 years. Nor have I seen the Dems trying to ram it down our throats the way the Repubs do.
Furthermore, we did not go after Dole the way the Repubs went after Kerry. We did not lie about his record and we did not make his record a centerpiece of the campaign the way you did to Kerry, Cleland and even McCain.
Dan, my guess is the reason they dont put up a dem in the CD5 line is that they are realists, at least to some degree. Those #’s should be enough to keep a D from even daydreaming about it.

Actually I was talking with Athena the other day and she said that she was very upset with how the Republican party is giving tax cuts to the rich while she is fighting wars without adequate supplies. She also said that reserves is being broken and it seems the Republicans could care less along with that idiot Rumsfeld she is forced to work with. More than minimal health risk to a subject if there is a “direct benefit” to the child being tested, and the parents or guardians agree.
EPA acceptance of overseas industry studies, which are often performed in countries that have minimal or no ethical standards for testing, as long as the tests are not done directly for the EPA.
The EPA provided little clarification yesterday in response to questions about the exemptions.

You are right, you can name hundreds of Republicans who did not fight in the military but are now elected officials that support the war on terror and the war in Iraq. But they were elected by the people to represent us in Congress and the White House. You may not like it but Bush was elected to be president and he has to make tough decisions that a lot of people will not agree with. As for me, I applied twice to become an officer in the Naval Reserve, but was turned down because of a medical condition.
As for not hearing Dems preach, I think you should pay closer attention to the news because they reported Kerry, Edwards, and the crew every time they preached from the pulpit. As for the Republicans and Christianity, they teamed a lot longer than 5 years ago. When the Republican Party started, it was formed by abolitionist Christians to opposed the Democrats in the South. It should stand to reason that they continue to woo the majority of Christians in the US because they have remained focused on traditional values.
Finally, Dole was attacked by the Dems for being divorced, accused of election fraud, for being too old, and laundering campaign contributions lying the whole way.
The question I originally asked had nothing to do with which political party Jesus would be apart of. I simply asked Who Would Jesus Smear. This can obviously cut both ways. Jonathan immediately took it as a political attack on Republicans. I think this passage might give us a clue why.

If you want to try and win in CD5, you should not immediatly poison your campaign by attaching yourself to Mike Miles. Immpressive military record though he might have, he’s regarded among moderate voters as a friggen’ left wing cook. I don’t really think he’s a cook, but he is very left-leaning. His supporters however, are wastoid cooks, so be careful. Use a moderate, independent message PLEASE… don’t get grouped in with the be-the-changers.

A. As shown by the primary results last year, most folks don’t have a clue at all who Mike Miles is, so it won’t matter in the general election.
B. I’m not sure Miles’ culinary skills are an issue here (or even their supporters). I mean, sure, Mike can make a mean gumbo — and his crabcake is to die for — but I don’t think that makes him a left wing cook. In fact, I think when he cooks chicken or turkey, he prefers that both of the wings be well-cooked.

I think your selection from Matthew is a poor choice, even though it is a great passage, it doesn’t make much sense given the agruement. I wasn’t judging anyone, just stating my opinion.
Thanks for encouraging me to read the Bible, I try to do it on a daily basis in conjunction with listening to it on CD. I encourage you to read it daily also.

Now about CD5. I think it is good that a dem is out there. It is always good to stir up some competition so as to keep the best person in office. I think there has been so little competition in this district for so long that it has enabled the incumbent to not fight for his job and be as effective in congress as he could be. Viva la competition!!!

I don’t kno where you got your numbers but Joel’s seat is one of the top 10 safest seats in the US while OH2 is 57th. While a far cry from being competitive, it is still more in play than CO CD5. Further, Fawcett will have a fundraising hurdle to overcome while the Republican candidate will not only have an easier time raising funds they will also have an enormous grassroots
This race is no different than a Republican running in CD1, the numbers are too great to overcome.
