D'oh! D'oh! D'oh!

Enjoy this fundraising email sent out today from the Republican National Committee in the name of Sen. Cory Gardner. We took the liberty of marking it up to help prevent future errors. For example:

  1. Cory Gardner is from Yuma, Colorado. Not Denver. Or the Mile High City.
  2. “Grinning from ear to ear” is a tad cliche when discussing Gardner.
  3. Denver may very well be a perfect place to hold a GOP Debate. Too bad the debate will be held in Boulder.
  4. Again, good luck trying to find a GOP debate in Denver in late October.
  5. Still, not Denver.

  1. The GOP is apparently scraping the bottom of the barrel for staffers and interns these days. The  GOP state party newsletter also often has glaring errors in grammar and spelling. On this "A vote for Hillary = 4 more years of Obama" missive, I counted five errors.

First, it's DemocratIC. C'mon, guys, it's just one more syllable. We manage to say "RepubliCAN" all the time.

Second, "Mile High State?" Denver has always been the Mile High City, most of Colorado is near a mile high.  but Colorado as the Mile High State is a meme apparently coined by right wing sites such as Examiner.com, after the legalization of recreational marijuana, cause, you know, "high", yuk yuk.  About 3/5 of Colorado is at 5000' elevation or higher, so you could call it the Mile High State – it's just not on any tourist or Chamber of Commerce materials I've ever seen.

Third, in the last sentence, first paragraph, "if" should be "whether".

Fourth,  "The fact is" (which is not a fact but an opinion) should be written "The fact is that"….

Last, "Coloradans" is plural, and does not need an apostrophe. I hate those unnecessary apostrophes.

As political propaganda, it would convince the already-convinced….and it would make them all a little dumber just by virtue of reading it.

Other state GOP screeds have the same level of professionalism…doesn't anyone proofread anymore?
