figured I would post something instead of nothing.
What is up with cops who bite and brawl over a softball game? Are Denver’s cops really that unprofessional?
Over 100 people showed up for the opening day of The Colorado Walk.
I’ve posted a gallery and a diary for those who are interested.
The next oil boom? While the columnist’s attitude towards environmental sensitivity isn’t exactly what I’d call “enlightened”, his main topic of discussion is quite interesting: Shell’s new oil shale extraction technique is supposedly viable at $30/barrel, and produces energy returns similar to those of soy biodiesel (3.5 to 1).
The Green River Formation is one of the largest – if not the largest – oil reserves in the world, which until now has been locked up due to the close physical bonds which hold the oil. A 160-acre commercial scale test project should be cleared soon.
If successful, Western Colorado and the surrounding area will be guaranteed a major oil boom. This is good news if you’re an oilman watching the ageing Rangely oil fields dwindle. However, the description of the extraction technique does not sound environmentally sensitive; the active surface area of the “well” site will approximate the boundary of the area of extraction – i.e. it won’t be usable for cattle, farming, or wildlife.
I was at the border Saturday and walked again Monday as we cruised into Fort Collins about 4pm. 15 miles. My feet hurt. We got a lot of waves and horns honking during the day. Had one guy stop, run across the street and gave us $20 for the campaign. Had a few folks flippn’ the bird but not many. The reception was very positive.

No hate crimes charges have been pressed against the alleged killers of a gay man found dead in a Montrose park July 30. Over the weekend, the cause of Kevin Hale’s death was reported to be strangulation.
The case looks and smells like a hate crime, but authorities may be reluctant to apply Colorado’s hates crimes laws (that were newly expanded to include sexual orientation) — possibly because the victim had told police several times that he was being harassed.
Andy B — regarding Kevin Hale’s death in Montrose. Remind me the next time that I get killed and want the criminal penalty to include a hate crime NOT to notify the authorities each time I was harrassed while alive.
