Biden Preparing to Run for President? Maybe? No? Whatever

Vice President Joe Biden.
Vice President Joe Biden

As CNN reports, Vice President Joe Biden is “making calls” about entering the race for President:

Vice President Joe Biden has personally made a series of calls this week to Democratic strategists from Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, asking a final round of detailed questions about how — not whether — to launch a 2016 presidential campaign.

People familiar with the conversations tell CNN that Biden has been making the calls throughout the week, including on Wednesday, just as many leading Democrats argued the window to a potential candidacy was closing in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s strong performance in the party’s first presidential debate. He is asking these people to work for him if he runs.

The vice president has been making clear that his family is fully supportive of him jumping into the 2016 race, according to people familiar with the calls. They are guided by the belief that he has the best chance of keeping the White House in Democratic hands and he could forever regret taking a pass at another shot at the presidency. [Pols emphasis]

Quite frankly, rumors about a potential Presidential run for Biden have been floating around for so long that it’s impossible to analyze how seriously to consider any new whispers. The one thing we would not discount is the sentence highlighted above; Biden will turn 73 on Nov. 20, so it’s probably safe to assume that he’s not going to be running for President in 2020 if he isn’t already the incumbent.

      1. Fair point. But at this juncture it's all about differentiation. Any Dem. would prefer one of their own over any R. but which one..how do the pollsters word that question… oh, yeah," shares my values". Would any of the other Dems, let alone the rethuglicans have done as he did? Or might they simply have returned it.?If they didn't toss it in the bank?

      1. Wow.  That's the guy.  Thanks, Cat 1 (or, is that Cat 2?)

So, he's working for Hillary which tells me to bet the house on her nomination.  I got to meet him a couple of times during the "08 campaign.  He knew the delegate selection rules down to the county level  Very impressive.  You might want to check out his book, "The Magic Number" about achieving the delegate majority for the Obama campaign.

Too bad he's shilling for the Keystone Pipeline.  I guess being a delegate guru every eight years doesn't pay the bills.
