    1. I do. I pray that Fox News and GOP activists in general will follow George W's example, post-911, or Fiorina's defense of her Islamic employees, and refrain from condemning all Muslims as terrorists.

      So how many times have you talked about "ragheads" or "Islamofascists" today, Moddy? Do you think that helps anything?

        1. These creepy right-wing bastards have spent DECADES slamming, degrading and pissing on the French, and NOW suddenly, when it provides them the opportunity to indulge their hatred of all things Muslim (not just ISIS), they pretend to be "sympathetic." No quarter. Screw 'em.

    5. Still haven't apologized for your big fat lie that people here were mocking Julie's disabled son. Nobody, not one person here did. So shut up and go away, modster.

      1. IIRC he kind of, sort of did apologize but it was clearly insincere. Still it was a lot more than I ever expected to hear from that one.

        Now if only you could get Zappatero to explain why he has such intense hatred of Michael Bennet. And it's not ideological; he's ok with other Democrats (e.g., Obama) taking squishy moderate/conservative positions on some issues.

        2. He said he was apologizing if I was offended. As I explained to him that wasn't what he owed the apology for. He owed an apology for falsely stating that people here had mocked Julie's disabled son, going on to  say how disgusted he was by this thing that never happened. He hasn't apologized for that fabrication which I made clear numerous times was what he owed us an apology for.  Apologizing for something else, possibly offending me, is as irrelevant as, say, invading Iraq or maybe Sweden because a bunch of Saudi funded terrorists, mainly Saudis, none from Iraq, commited a terrorist act here.

          As for Zap, we won't get an explanation that makes sense because there isn't one. But he's certainly right that Bennet being one of only 12 Dems who have failed to support the Senate food service workers (so definitely not typical of our Dems in the Senate) is extremely shabby and disappointing.  I hope Bennet gets a lot of angry disgusted phone calls in addition to mine and joins the supporters. 

  6. Saw this on a bumper sticker the other day.

    Science can fly you to the moon.  Religion can fly you into buildings.

    We need to find some common ground among our religions where this kind of intolerance and bastardization of the Holy is rejected.

    My thoughts and prayers for those who lost their lives on a Friday night on the town and those who will mourn for the rest of their lives the loss of a loved one.

        2. Thanks from me, too. Maybe my French isn't so rusty, after all. I saw a story from AFP wire this morning that quoted a Parisian in a "man-on-the-street" interview in French . I started laughing, and when my wife asked what was so funny I told her I had to be sure of what I'd read first. Google Translate told me I'd read it correctly. "Are you frightened?", the reporter asked. "We are not frightened.", the woman said. "we are pissed." 

  8. Now that ISIS has claimed responsibility, no doubt this will be used to terrify Americans some more. Ironically, closing Gitmo would ease tensions with the Muslim world, but this event probably makes it less likely.

    ISIS is also being stupid. This is going to redouble the French commitment to wiping them out. Apparently the French only started airstrikes on ISIS in September, I didn't realize it was so recent.

    I hope the Republican who came up with Freedom Fries is squirming in his loafers today.

    1. I hope the Republicans who promote religious intolerance non-stop would take a time out too Blue.  ISIS isn't the only political ideology that seeks support by demonizing others.

      As far as being stupid, they are capable of convincing impressionable young men to strap on suicide vests and coming up with ingenious acts of carnage that they hope will culminate in an apocalyptic showdown that they will win.  It's not so much stupid as insane.  We can only hope that France doesn't follow Bush's response and try to invade Norway because of the oil

  10. I expect we will have hundreds of new bills in the hopper to "protect" us from the ISIL terrorists.  Those will not protect America any more than what the Republicans have done to the budget and how America functions in 2015.

     

    1. Thankfully we have Kerry and Obama as our foreign policy team and they are experienced in international diplomacy and are up to the task.  I really like Kerry as Secretary of State.  Bluntly Republicans aren't in charge so there is a chance that a gobal coalition can emerge of which the US is a participant and they go after this network and eradicate or degrade their financial and arms capabilities as well as the command structure.  These murderers weren’t acting alone and had in their possession military grade armaments.  The arms dealers who are providing the weapons need to be intercepted before they can deliver the guns and the financiers need to be shutdown even if they are from Saudi Arabia.  It is a military operation against a network and not a nation.  With Russia and Iran onboard, the global community should really be able to locate and degrade this network then go after the other wannabe networks.

  11. "The Exploitation of Paris"

    Can’t we wait until we’ve resolved the body count? Until the identities of all of the victims have been determined and their families informed? Until the sirens stop wailing? Until the blood is dry?

    Or must we instantly bootstrap obliquely related agendas and utterly unconnected grievances to the carnage in Paris, responding to it with an unsavory opportunism instead of a respectful grief?

Good article Light Bringer.  I was reading the blogs over at DailyKos this morning and Sanders supporters were using the attacks in Paris to bash Clinton and blame her for the rise of ISIL because of her vote on Iraq.  Opportunists with agendas that showed little respect for the bottomless grief of the family and friends of the murdered.  Thanks for bringing it to the group.  Something to remember when we start throwing around our ideas about what needs to be done to degrade and defeat these violence networks.

  12. How many Muslims have attacked the west? France alone has 6M Muslim population. These attacks were carried out by .00001% of the Muslim population. It is tragic. But not enough to call for eradication of an ethnic minority
