Who Supports Amendment 48 (Publicly, At Least)?

  • by: Colorado Pols

We’ve seen the lengthy list of those opposed to Amendment 48, the “personhood” amendment. But the YES campaign’s website also has its own list of supporters. Some of the names on the list, like right-wing Rep. Kevin Lundberg are no surprise, but other names on the list are a little surprising given a) how extreme this measure – and thus its supporters – can be portrayed, and b) the likelihood that it will be badly beaten at the polls.

Take a look after the jump and tell us who surprises you most.

Amendment 48 Supporters:

Political Leaders

– Fmr. Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee

– Colorado Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave

– Colorado Congressman Doug Lamborn

– State Senator Scott Renfroe

– State Senator Bill Cadman

– State Senator Ted Harvey, 6th CD Candidate

– State Senator Mike Kopp

– State Senator Josh Penry

– State Senator Greg Brophy

– State Senator David Schultheis

– State Representative Kent Lambert

– State Representative Jerry Sonnenberg

– State Representative Corey Garnder

– State Representative Kevin Lundberg

– State Representative Douglas Bruce

– State Representative Amy Stephens

– El Paso County Commissioner Amy Lathen

– 5th CD Candidate AF Maj. General Bentley Rayburn

– 5th CD Candidate Jeff Crank

– Peggy Littleton, Colorado State Board of Education

– Fmr. State Senator Mark Hillman

– Fmr. State Senator Mary Anne Tebedo

– 6th CD Candidate Wil Armstrong

– 4th State Senate District Candidate, Mark Vanderbilt

– 4th State Senate District Candidate, Mark Sheffel

– Fmr. State Representative & Candidate for State Senator, Keith King

– Fmr. State Representative Jim Welker

– Jefferson County Commissioner Kevin McCasky

– Chenoa Jensen, Candidate for Colorado Board of Education, District 7

– Mark Waller, Candidate for State House, El Paso County

– Scott Helman, Candidate for State House, Greeley

– Douglas “Dayhorse” Campbell, Candidate for U.S. Senate

We don’t know about you, but we’d rather not appear on any list that included the names of Dave Schultheis, Doug Bruce and Jim Welker.

  1. seen the Amendment 48 truck that drives around town? I’ve seen it three times now, and it is one of the craziest looking political paraphernalia devices I’ve ever seen. I wish I had a picture.

  2. All in the far right to off of the scale righties, as far as I can see.  These endorsements will not alter one independent, middle of the road vote.

But the male endorsers better watch out, if they spill their seed they could be in big trouble.

  3. I thought he had hopes for higher office?

The primary in 2010 for the CD4 is going to be bruatl as everyone tries to outflank each other to the right.

By the time they get to the General the will be in John Birch territory.

If I were setting up for a General election battle against Markey, I would be setting myself up as a paygo pragmatist to retake the center.

The GOP has misread the makeup of the district if they think tacking to the right will win in 2 years.

    1. is that they are far more willing than the Dems to march in lock step with each other’s bad policies. If you are an R and you like the turds on this list, then you would feel compelled vote for for 48, but wait! If you don’t want to vote for it, you could cite Schaffer. But then there is that pesky cruncher Udall!

Oh the humanity! To whom does a good Republican go to be told what to do???

    1. because this thing is so nutty it can be turned against them in the future as an example of impractical, unworkable, extremist politics at their worst.  And it’s a wedge issue for moderate R/independent women. Even the Catholic Church doesn’t support it because it won’t withstand legal scrutiny.

    2. As far as I can remember, that’s a first.

However, I got a robocall from Joe Whitcomb telling me to disregard a Mitchell mailing because those restraining orders were all a big mistake.  I didn’t see the Mitchell mailer, but the “restraining order” call sure made me curious!  I’m not sure that was a good idea, Joe.

      1. This’ll be the first election-night party I’ve hosted. My plan is to have a bingo sheet with a bunch of close races, and every time the Democratic side wins, you get to mark it (and maybe take a drink too).

        Thanks much for the link.
