UPDATE: Littleton will do just fine with many on the far right of the political spectrum, particularly when echoing her concerns about the “homosexual agenda.”
—–
So far in 2016, a Colorado Republican has announced a U.S. Senate campaign about once every five days. Today, by our count, we have surpassed double-digits in the list of GOP contenders.
As the Denver Post reports, El Paso County Commissioner Peggy Littleton is officially in the GOP Senate field:
In making her announcement, Littleton touted her political experience — she served on Colorado State Board of Education for seven years — as well as her ability to connect with local residents.
“I am you. I get it,” she said in a phone interview. “I’m a military mom. I’m the daughter of a World War II veteran. I’m a single woman. I pay my own bills. I balance my budget. I’m a grandmother who is concerned about the future of our children and grandchildren.”
Her entry into the race adds a new name to a Republican primary that has grown more crowded by the week.
This is getting a little ridiculous, no?
It is extremely unlikely that the June Primary ballot will have at least 10 Republican names listed under “U.S. Senate.” In order to make the ballot, candidates must win the support of more than 30% of GOP delegates at the State Convention. With state Sen. Tim Neville the prohibitive grassroots favorite, we’d be surprised if even three candidates made the ballot through the convention process.
All candidates have the option of going the petition route for ballot access instead, but in a statewide race, it is a costly and complicated process to gather the required number of signatures from each of the state’s 7 Congressional districts. Of course, if the ballot does end up including nearly 10 candidates, the race for the GOP nomination becomes an absolute free-for-all; someone could emerge as the Republican challenger to incumbent Democrat Michael Bennet by winning just a small slice of the total Primary electorate.

Is it my imagination or does she look like Vicky Marble's twin?
Then again, maybe all wing nutresses go for the same appearance.
Go ahead, attack her personal appearance. See how many women votes you win with that crap.
Who cares? This is just another joke candidate. Like the rest of your entire team of would be challengers. Interesting that you think comparing her appearance to Marble’s is an attack. Guess Marble doesn’t do much for you?
I'm an equal opportunity appearance attacker. My secret ambition is to do political cartoons, and I notice the flaws and idiosyncracies of faces more than many people do.
I do get the concept and have experienced the weight of societal condemnation and judgment of women's looks vs their ideas. It's getting better, but not much. Thank you for your feminist sympathizing, modster – we're sisters under the skin.
Are you talking about the clueless look…or the hair?
both….they go together.
…but, really now…do we need any more evidence that, while Democrats struggle to find candidates to participate in this onerous exercise we call campaigning, Republicans see it as a gravy train they can't wait to get on…?
But wait! There's more…
An even dozen; and all cracked.
Yup, like flies gathering around a cow pie.
I think even AC and Modster are too embarrassed to comment due to the ludicrous depths to which their party has sunk.
No, Moddy and A/C are probably too busy getting their paperwork over to the FEC setting up their candidate committee before they make their announcements.
Moderatus 2016: He's the dumbassiest!
+10, cook.
The more no-name candidates that get involved in this race, the less likely it is that any of them make the ballot.
What happens if the convention doesn't produce someone with the necessary 30% margin? I know Democrats give candidates who hit a secondary threshold the chance to petition on. Or are all of these candidates going to bypass the convention and petition on directly?
In the long run it doesn't matter. None of them is going to oust Bennet.
It only matters if a single candidate makes it (Neville) and the rest fall below the petition threshold… Then it's ultra-winger Neville vs ultimate centrist Bennet.
Well then, obviously, Bennet will force Timmy to run back towards the center for the general? …
…
… Nahhhh — I just wanted to see if I could make Zap blow snot outta' his nose with choking laughter …
Like I said….
Wasn't it just about this time of year in 2014 that the GOTP field cleared for just one, who couldn't win but did anyway?
The difference MADCO, is that one had the blessing of the establishment and the other does not. It the Hairmeister makes nice with Jamie and his band of billionaires, we are in deep do-do…
Ok. I'm thinking Suthers or Elway. (Or similar.)
