Dr. Dobson: Don't vote for the apocalypse

Seeking to lock up the title of Most Over the Top Use of Religion to Scare the Hell Out of People since the Salem Witch Trials, genteel spiritual leader Dr. James Dobson’s Focus on the Family has released a fictitious letter from “A Christian” in 2012 explaining how, electing Barack Obama will lead to the end of civilization as we know it.

Literally.

http://focusfamaction.edgeboss…

Highlights include: the end of the Boy Scouts, millions of deaths worldwide, the government forcing churches to perform gay marriages, parents being disqualified from adoption because they are Christian, porn on network television during the middle of the day, multiple terrorist attacks on U.S. soil., Russia invading Poland (and many other countries), $7 gas, and many other horribles.

Really, one line sums up the whole thing.  In 2012,

the entire country is fearful, for no place seems safe.

Does Dr. Dobson believe this will happen?  Of course not.  He thinks an Obama adminstration will be bad, but he worries that what he actually expects won’t engender the kind of fear he needs, so he’s turned to hyperbole to ratchet up the panic count.  I’m combing through my Bible looking for the verse that encourages spiritual leaders to behave this way.  I haven’t found it yet.

  1. .

as to be able to buy gasoline for a mere $7 per gallon in 2012.

The reason that it is so urgent to get off the addiction to oil is because the competition for an essentially fixed supply of crude oil will shoot up as China and other emerging industrial nations see increasing proportions of their populations get factory jobs.

Wednesday, post election, look for gas at the pump to head for the $4 mark again.

    .
