  1. This morning’s news about the Yes on C campaign filing more complaints against their opponents begs a question in my book:  Who does Katy Atkinson work for during the legislative session?  She was seen frequently at the Capitol this year watching (and lobbying) some of the drug bills.  I’m guessing that she’s a lobbyist for the big drug companies, but I can’t confirm that.  Anyone know?

Incidentally, if she lobbies for ANYONE, she needs to file that with the Secretary of State.  But if you click the link below, you’ll see that she didn’t file anything.  It says that someone named Lynn Johnson is lobbying for Katy, but who is paying Katy’s bills? Is she illegally hiding her list of clients?

And before the conjecture starts, let me say that I am not in any way affiliated with those groups Katy is attacking. I’m just a Republican sick of her attack-style campaign. What happened to the merits of C&D?

  2. COALITION FOR HUMAN DIGNITY BEYOND BORDERS

~stop immigrant bashing in Colorado and stand up for human rights~

    Press Conference and Rally!
    Tuesday, August 23 at 4:15pm
West steps of the Colorado Capitol building

The CHDBB is a broad-based coalition supporting the human rights of all immigrants, including the right to employment and the right to an education.  We stand together in opposition of immigrant bashing.

  3. when will Tom Tancredo call for putting huge fines on people who employee illegal workers in this country?  We don’t need people on the border, we just need the federal and state gov’ts to enforce the laws that are on the books.

Remember, it’s just as against to law to HIRE an illegal worker as it is to be one.

    Watch out Wendys!

  4. If you realyl support this idea, you don’t want Tom Tancredo to call for anything. It is certain death to a proposal when a perceived “extremist” (as Tancredo is inarguably viewed, kind of like the Dennis Kucinich of the right) is the one who calls for it. Anyone with the power to move the proposal (read: Republican leadership) will run from it at that point.

Besides, can you imagine the uproar from all sides if the government starts arresting legitimate Americans (however shady their business practices) while still letting millions of illegal run loose? The govermnet HAS to go after the illegals first.

  5. if business knew they couldn’t get away with hiring illegal workers, they wouldn’t hire them.  Thus, if people who try to come here to get jobs illegally knew they wouldn’t get hired, they wouldn’t come.  The only reason there are millions of illegals in this country is because illegals know they can get a job, because business faces no consequences to hiring illegal workers.

I just wonder why this whole part of dealing with immigration is somehow never part of the debate.

I repeat again, it’s just as against the law to HIRE an illegal as it is to be one.  It’s anti-American to hire an illegal.

  6. Kudos To Republican Mark Larson of Cortez for his support on Ref C & D.  He hit the nail on the head of what’s wrong with the anti-C & D folks with this quote from the Durango Herald Online.

    From the Herald:

“Mr. Larson wrote a blistering statement attacking referendum opponents. He urged voters to “reject the self-serving and uninformed blather of these fringe elements supported almost entirely by out-of-state organizations. Let Coloradans decide Colorado’s future, not retired Texas congressmen or D.C. Beltway bigots.””

  7. Seems to me Bill Owens and other GOpers have forgotten these remarks…

“The taxpayer: That’s someone who works for the federal government but doesn’t have to take the civil service examination.”

    Who said it?

    Ronald Reagan.

  8. CHDBB sounds like one of those screw ball groups
There will be less than 50 if they are lucky. They will claim a lot more. It will be the same screw balls who come out to protest the police. Never more than twenty. If you have a great big rally maybe somebody should be there? I know that is a radical idea or maybe these people just really have no support and nothing better to do.

  9. Don’t you think Katy is playing with fire in today’s RMN? She should probably remember who she is targeting. I don’t think it is a good idea to throw stones at Club For Growth, II, and other Republican organizations, especially since she lives in a glass house.

    Stupid Katy! Very Stupid.

  10. I don’t see Katy’s position as being against her past record; she supported Open Space in prior years, so she’s obviously not rabidly anti-government.

Good try, but if you’re making stuff up about the messenger instead of attacking the message, you’re lost.

  11. PR –

    Well said.

As for Mark Larson: Caldara, Andrews, Musgrave, Tancredo, Beauprez, Holtman, Bill Miller, Shawn Mitchell, Josh Penry and the entire County of El Paso all seem to be within the state. If he wants to pretend that his RINO nonsense is going to get overlooked because some people at the national level are hoping that TABOR gets implemented in other states then he has really lost his mind.

  12. Katy Atkinson isn’t running a campaign pretending to be a charity.

    http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/election/article/0,1299,DRMN_36_4022979,00.html

What does the United Way and the Independence Institute have in common?

And if majority of the funding for the Independence Institute comes from honest Coloradoans instead of out of staters that don’t care about our fine state then what is there to hide?

How does that phrase go? – Honesty is the best policy – looks like the great minds at II have already reworked that.

  13. Anyone going to talk about the horrendous murderous statement that Pat Robertson has said?  Or, is this debate/website going to only carry the viewpoints that are good for the Republicans?  (laugh) Condemnation that is not from the CONSERVATIVE WHACKO RIGHT, will only make them look more extreme and wrong, making all of the Republicans look very very badly …

  14. TERRORIST STATEMENTS: CHRISTIAN PAT ROBERTSON?

(CNN) — Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson has called for the United States to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him “a terrific danger” bent on exporting Communism and Islamic extremism across the Americas.

“If he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it,” Robertson told viewers on his “The 700 Club” show Monday. “It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war.” Watch video of Robertson’s comments

Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel accused Robertson of making terrorist statements and demanded that the United States take action, according to The Associated Press.

In my opinion, Pat Robertson has made International Threats to a foriegn head of state (without any regard to US policy and relationships between our two countries), these statements are extremely worrisome and they do not reflect the values of America.  The Venezuelan President has a democratic government and these type of statements from Pat Robertson should cause our government to ask for his immediate resignation.

  15. What did Ari Fleischer say right before we invaded Iraq, “One bullet is cheaper than a war…”  Does anyone remember the quote I’m going for here?  I can’t think of it off the top of my head.  I know that Bush was pretty annoyed by it though.

  16. Robertson does not represent our government.  Given that, he can espouse any opinion he has.  While he has to deal with the ramifications from those that follow (or advertise with)him, it’s still his right to voice his opinion.

  17. Robertson used a lot of “prayer” time asking God to open up a few spots on the SCOTUS bench.  And it was obvious from his words he was not asking for a natural demise of them.

  18. I disagree.  You cannot make threats to people, that breaks the law.  If I were to get infront of a camera and threaten the life of someone, I would expect to be prosecuted.  Besides, where does Pat Robertson believe that he has so much knowledge of the International foriegn relations between our government and the Venezuelan President?  Pat Robertson could cause tremendous amount of harm in our ability to reform the South Americas toward a greater Democratic process.  And, where does Pat think that he speaks for the US Government?

  19. I understand that Pat Robertson ran for the GOP President in 1998.  Pat Robertson is very close to the Bush Administration.  MY goodness, these GOP whackos, elected or not are completely nuts!

  20. Pat Robertson also suggested dropping a small nuke on the state department a few years ago. After all these years I am still surprised at the stupidity of people in this country who will actually tune in to the nonsensical ramblings of some dumb old cracker who is accountable to nobody.  This guy is a few years shy of taking the old dirt nap anyway, so maybe God himself will “take him out” sooner rather than later…

  21. Lebowski993 –

Whats the matter?  You actually agree with his statement?  You can’t be a Christian if you do.

Can’t you say something Christian instead of making a statement against me?  You don’t know my life, nor do you have a place to make such a viewpoint.  Go look in the mirror and pray for PEACE … you are advocating suffering and war if you don’t condemn Pat Robertson.  Indeed, it is devilish to ask for someone to murder someone … it is not Holy.  It is against Christian faiths … you must have a forked tongue …

Your mother should have washed your mouth out with more soap !!!

  22. Peter:

Claiming that Republicans are “completely nuts” because of Pat Robertson’s remark is like saying all Democrats are murderers because of Ted Kennedy.  This is one Republican that finds Robertson’s remarks stupid and offensive.  But it is naive to assume the GOP or Bush, who has publicly disavowed the statement, supports him.

  23. Robertson didn’t threaten anyone.  He simply said, “If he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.”  Peter, you can go on television and say “I think we ought to kill death row inmates.”  You aren’t threatening them, you are simply stating your opinion.  Far different if Robertson said, “I’m gonna kill that SOB”!

  24. But getting back to the point, no it was not a very Chrisitan thing for him to say.

And Peter…put the crack pipe down.  You’re gonna hurt yourself!

  25. What I find funny is Robertson said activist judges are the more a threat to America than people that fly planes into building.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/305721p-261517c.html

What would be the Republican reaction if the leader of a major faction of the Democratic party said something like this?

Republicans have taken their eye off the ball in the war on terror and we are all due to pay for thier incompetence but I am sure it will just be Clintons fault like it always is.

  26. Peter doesn’t have a job because it appears that he hasn’t graduated from high school yet. His copious grammatical and logical errors leave that as the only possible conclusion. This kid has made an art form of the non sequitur.

  27. Oh, really –

He is completely nuts!  Pat Robertson needs to revamp his website!!!  Since it says, “Thou Shalt Not Murder?.”  So, how much hiprocracy do you want?  It is OUTRAGEOUS !!!

    Just read his website: http://www.patrobertson.com

    Teaching

God’s Word in Action: Thou Shall Not Murder

Is there more than meets the eye to the biblical commandment ‘thou shalt not kill?’

    PatRobertson.com –

    by Pat Robertson

“‘These were not 10 suggestions; they were Ten Commandments.’

As Ted Koppel said, ‘These were not 10 suggestions; they were Ten Commandments.’ There is someone who is putting billboards around the country. One of the billboards says, ‘What part of “Thou shalt not” don’t you understand?’ It’s a wonderful statement. What don’t you understand about what God was saying to you?

You start off, ‘thou shalt not murder.’ The word has to do with murder. We’re not talking about a judicial execution by law, but you shall not murder. All the way down the commandments, ‘thou shalt not.’ When you find that all the way down, what does it imply? It implies you’re already doing it and it implies that these are things that you need to be restrained from doing because you have an attitude to do it.

Thou shalt not murder–not have judicial executions–but you shall not murder. Killing is taking away somebody’s life. People should be secure in their life. That is one of the principles of the Declaration of Independence.

We hold these truths to be self-evident that God has endowed us all with life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, that we have life, the right to life. Life has become more and more cheap in the society we live in. But God says you shall not murder.

In my opinion, abortion is murder. Once you begin to understand that the taking of an innocent life is murder, then that raises the bar from a ‘constitutional right’ to something that needs to be stopped.

Abortion is murder. Now, beyond that we’re looking at euthanasia. We want to begin to terminate the lives of the elderly or those who are ‘terminally ill.’ We have moved from a culture honoring life to a culture that begins to exalt death.

I looked at some pictures just recently of the horror that went on in the Nazi extermination camps. There were bodies on top of bodies, starved, wretched corpses, people who’d been allowed to starve to death. Some had been terribly beaten and abused. They were covered with lice. They had been jammed into these awful barracks. They had been persecuted, tormented, and finally died. It was horrible what happened under the Nazis, horrible what happened under Josef Stalin, horrible what happened under Mao Tse-tung.

God says thou shalt not murder. Jesus Christ expanded that a little bit to have said, ‘Anybody that says to your brother, “You fool” is in danger of hell fire.’ So, go further and you begin to get angry with someone without cause. You begin to curse other people. That is a curse sending somebody to hell. That’s the equivalent of murder. So what comes out of our mouth is so often a breaking of the Ten Commandments, because God Almighty wants to protect life and have everyone walk the streets without fear of being murdered.

Whenever Satan is at work in the world, people’s lives aren’t safe. One of the things we must protect from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death is the life of people.”

  28. Peter,
For the love of God, will you please shut up with your whining!

You should take advantage of the clue your fellow dems give you when they all think you are a whack-job

  29. Peter:

Being the Bible scholar you are, I am suprised that you don’t have a better tranlation.  The original Greek translation, the Septu?agint, translates it as “thou shall not murder”.  A minor point, but an important one.  You may not like what is says, but it is what it is.  There are a lot of Christians that want to put God in a box and say what He can and cannot do, buta at the end of the day He is God and we are not.  I am sure that He can do whatever he wants.

As for Robertson, I think he was way out of line.  Just like all the liberals who have called for President Bush to be killed are wrong.

  30. Jonathan –

Pat Robertson is not a GOD pal.  Furthermore, I never saw a semi-colon after the statement, “Thou Shalt Not Murder,” or “Thou Shalt Not Kill.”

The Ten Commandments are pretty clear … “Thou Shalt Not Kill.”

How much more clear do you need the words?

  31. Pete – for someone who is so “Christian” I wonder if you can point to where in the Bible does it say that you should call other names like “Wacko” or “nuts”?

Marshall – Sheehan and other Democrat leaders have compared Bush to terrorists.

As for the Clintons, I am sure everything “is” going to be blamed on them once we figure out that “is” is.  After all he only knew about Able Danger almost a year in advance and he didn’t go after Osama, even when he wass ofered up on a silver platter by Sudan’s government.  No blame there.

  32. Peter:

Before you attack my point of view, you should have read what I said.  I did not defend Robertson.  Personally, I think the guy is an idiot.  I simply pointed out that just because Robertson is a Republican, it is wrong for you to imply that Bush (who has condemned Robertson’s statement)or other Republicans (myself included) agree with him. But then again, it would have interfered with your little rant…..

  33. Peter- do you understand what I said?  clearly not.  The original Greek translation says it is not “thou shall not murder”.  Now I can see that you are getting upset because there are people who know more about the Bible than you do, so just take a deep breath.
By the way Peter, do you beleive that the Bible is the infallable word of God?  Or do you get to interpert it as you wish?

  34. Peter,
Based on your strict constructionism of your version of the Bible, can you please explain your position on a soldier who has had to kill people in the line of duty?

Are you saying that he is a sinner because he did his duty?

  35. Dear Pistachio “NUTS”

    Genesis 43:11

Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be, then do this: Put some of the best products of the land in your bags and take them down to the man as a gift?a little balm and a little honey, some spices and myrrh, some pistachio NUTS and almonds.

Whacko (Definition): A person regarded as eccentric or “irrational,” or “illogical,” or “false:”

False in the Bible has many many references, which one do you want?

    Genesis 21:23

Now swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or my descendants. Show to me and the country where you are living as an alien the same kindness I have shown to you.”

  36. Young Rep –

Go look in the mirror, and ask yourself this question, “Would Jesus Christ take the life of someone?”  No, he would not.

Every soldier will have to take that judgement to God … God will make those judgements … pray for those who have made that decision.

  37. Peter, are you Christian? Because if you are then why are you quoting scripture out of the Old Testament?  As a Christian you should use the New Testament for guidance and the Old Testament for history.

Again, I ask where can you show me that Jesus call someone a wacko or calls them nuts.

  38. Jonathan –

Jesus would not call someone like yourself as “nuts” or “whacko,” his words would be much more stern.  My words were gentle.  Jesus would likely call you as someone who walks along side the adversary, because you are defending those who are breaking the Ten Commandments and the Bible.

I will not make that suggestion, but I will suggest that you are “nuts” and a “whacko.”

  39. Peter,

    You are completely wrong.

If a soldier kills someone in the line of suty, he or she is not responsible for their actions. They are doing their job and therefore will not be held accountable. The New Testament state God will hold the President accountable for their deaths.

  40. JW, I concur completely.

Peter, you sound like one of the many false prophets that are discredited over and over.  Who are you to say what God will and will not judge?

Also, if you knew your scriptures, you would find many references of the instructions to soldiers on how war is to be fought.

As for the rest of your brayings, I must conclude that you are the whacko, and are completely nuts.

  41. JW –

Provide the scripture that states it.

When the Roman soldiers call out ?vertere crucem? the people became tense. The soldiers lift the cross, prop it on its side for an agonizing moment, and then let it fall over … then, Jesus said, “Father forgive them, they know not what they do …”  This is the New Testament.  And, Jesus forgave them all.

I will not make the judgement of the soldiers in today’s conflict, no matter, every man and woman will be judged by GOD.

None-the-less, Jesus brought forth a message with his death.  An ultimate sacrifice for the sins of the world.  I suggest that man can do better by learning from his lesson.

    REPENT …

  42. Peter,

Wow, you know Jesus would be more stern?  Did you by chance name your parrot Jesus?  Please let me know where I condoned someone breaking the ten commandments?  I was just clariying your translation of the Bible.

  43. Luckily those of us who had the privledge to serve and also the good luck to grow up in Pope Benny’s church had that sticky “killing as a Soldier” question cleared up for us by St. Augustine a couple centuries ago. Read the “City of God” and I’m sure you’ll aggree the boys and girls in America’s military today are “Soldiers of God”.

Since it is so rare for me to wear my faith on my sleeve, I would ask you to stop now Peter before I call you a heretic.

  44. If Sunday School has finished, might we get back to politics?  If not, can we at least change the broken record?  I want to know what Zoraster would do.

  45. Iron Mike –

Take your hatred with you … but, it has no place in Heaven.  GOD will make the judgement for the soldiers that knew not of what their bullets have done, no matter from what country the bullets were shot.

    REPENT

  46. Peter continues to take little sections of the Bible out of context to suit his needs.  His theology is full of holes.  He does not believe in killing but he believes in abortion.  He deos not believe in war, but he believes in hatred toward those who do not agree with him.  He believes in the Bible, but only certian parts. He believes in Jesus, but he does not believe in everything Jesus said.

  47. Or we could go ethnic and seek the advise of Questelcoatel(sp?) and Huetselapochle(sp?). Careful with the Rain God though, El Nino made him moody and he liked human sacrifice.

  48. Peter- you don’t know my faith or my wlak with the Lord.  You don’t even bother to answer one question asked of you, so you have no credibility.  (no suprise)

  49. Ok how about this: What if everyone on this forum agrees to completely ignore Peter and all of his posts starting tomorrow. Imagine — a day where we talk politics. Doesn’t it sound great?

  50. Bob –

I never said that I agree with the murder of a child in the womb.  You misrepresent and lie with my words.  I said, the Holy Spirit has not entered into the body, until a brain exists for the Holy Spirit to enter.  I never said to take the life of the baby, unless the life of the mother is in danger.  A mother should not be sacrificed for the life of the baby, so that she can continue to bring more life.

  51. Peter,

Yet again, you have managed to make a fool of yourself.  If only Pheonix were here to save you.

You have lost, bow out gracefully, and leave your piousness off this site.

  52. brio –

You comment suggests that you know me more than that of GOD.  You are a typical radical Republican that cannot see the light.

Zoraster was the first founder of a world religion to prophesy and end of time and of earthly life.  Zorastrians believe that the souls of the dead will be reunited with their resurrected bodies on the last day. The dead man and the living will undergo the Last Judgement. The wicked will be destroyed body and soul but the just people will be unharmed.

The last days will not be brought upon us, because Jesus will save the world … Zorastrians are wrong.

  53. Young Rep –

You have lost miserably, because the Democrats are reading everything that you write!  And, many Republicans are being turned daily, they become the new born again Christians of the world, that support life.

The polls provide evidence of your failure and downfall.

  54. Mark Larson is one of the few politicians who will “tell it like it is.”  I find his comments on Ref. C and D to be on target.  If C and D do not pass both K-12 and higher education will suffer as will other state programs (I have heard rumor of no more county extension agents, etc.)and transportation projects.  The impact of C and D on rural Colorado is immense.  If C and D fail, rural Colorado will suffer tremendously.

Keep on telling it like it is Mark.  Maybe someone will listen.

  55. Young Rep –

NO man knows of the last days … Jesus will arrive, but on his watch … Zorastrians suggest that they know of this time, but they do not …

Zorastrians are simply wrong.  You are obviously uneducated about religion Young Rep.

  56. Although the fallout will surely differ, I fully expect the Bush administration to appropriately rebuke Pat Robertson as they did Newsweek with the Koran fiasco?I want a LOUD chorus of condemnation!! There?s no room for hypocrisy at a time when the global perception of the US is so low.
Peter- I feel you man, but you gotta 1) choose your battles more carefully 2) be a little more concise 3) refuse the obvious bait others throw at you.

  57. Peter,
    You are an idiot.

I never said anything about Zorastrians.  Keep an eye on who you are responding to.

When will Phoenix come and save you again…..

  58. Speaking of free speech, how is it that Oprah was sued years ago for saying she was afraid to eat beef?  I know the plaintiffs claimed she has great influence on many people but…?
Would anyone mind explaining?  I never did understand that one.
    Thx

  59. BREAKING NEWS—-

Ken Salazar has just announced he will NOT run for Governor in 2006.

This moves Fitz-Gerald to the top of the Dem. heap. I know she has a fundraiser planned in the near future but it was not made clear to me if the fundraiser was for her Senate seat or for Governor.

  60. Why does this look like a bad day on talk.religion?

Last I checked, my job wasn’t to defend Peter; just because I agree with his more rational points…

But I will ask: is it so hard to believe that a born-again Christian can support the principle of abortion?  The concept of life at conception is a Roman Catholic dictate, just as the composition of the Bible is (and one not strictly followed by the Protestant churches).  How can it be that Christians support outlawing abortion at the expense of the life of the mother?  The procedure is so demonized that women who truly need it have a hard time getting it; the logical conclusion to this crusade is the death of innocent women.

And, beyond the religious debate: the attack on abortion is a strictly theological one; as much as I personally don’t like abortion, my religion has no right to impose its will on the practice of abortion as determined to be ethical by the researches of science.  Religious dictate must stop at the door of the government or we are no different from the Taliban, Saudis, or Iranians governing by Sharia law.

  61. I live in a district with a long line-up of Dems in front of me…  Besides, I’m relatively new to the state; I’m just starting to get my feet wet and signing up for committee/commission work.  Perhaps you’ll see me in a few years on a ballot line…

Hey, Dead Guvs:  When you’re updating your line to reflect Ken Salazar’s new position, you might consider including someone else on the CO-5 line: Joel Hefley.  Given the recent news, perhaps writing him off of another term is a bit premature?

  62. Phoenix –

What is your opinion of this?  And, I just heard that a call for Doctors has been sent out … a friend of mine who is 50 years old, has been called up, leaving his family for who knows how long.  He is not happy, he is 50 years old !!!  But, Iraq hospitals need doctors very badly …

    From Larry Shaughnessy
    CNN Washington Bureau

Paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division board a C-130 for a training exercise in this April 2005 photo.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — More troops are headed to Iraq, this time 1,500 paratroopers to temporarily boost military strength during the fall election period, the Pentagon has announced.

Two battalions of the 82nd Airborne Division will deploy in mid-September from their home base of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. They will comprise the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment (AIR) and the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR).

This is the third time the U.S. has raised troop levels during major political milestones in Iraq. Similar increases were made during the June 2004 transfer to Iraqi sovereignty and again during January’s elections.

This deployment and last week’s announcement of another increase will raise the troop level to at least 140,000.

What is your opinion of this?  And, I just heard that a call for Doctors has been sent out … a friend of mine who is 50 years old, has been called up, leaving his family for who knows how long.  He is not happy, he is 50 years old !!!  But, Iraq hospitals need doctors very badly …
