Arrest Made in Jon Keyser Petition Forgery Scandal

  • by: Colorado Pols

Breaking news from just about every Colorado news outlet today regarding the petition fraud scandal dogging Republican Senate candidate Jon Keyser. Credit, of course, to the original reporting from Marshall Zelinger of Denver7:

Here’s more from Zelinger’s story this afternoon:

Denver police have arrested the signature collector accused of turning in forged signatures on petitions for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jon Keyser.

Denver7 political reporter Marshall Zelinger was outside Moss’ home on Wednesday as she was escorted out in handcuffs.

The arrest warrant issued for Moss details the 34 felony forgery counts she faces

…Denver7’s reporting is referenced multiple times as part of the supporting information used to obtain the arrest warrant.

In a remarkable display of transparent dumbassery, Keyser is acknowledging the news on his own Twitter account:

Keyser is trying hard to play the victim card here — which is too little, too late after his initial strategy of just repeating to the press “I’m on the ballot” turned him into a national laughingstock. What the arrest of Maureen Moss really confirms is that Keyser should have never made it onto the June 28th Primary ballot in the first place. Secretary of State Wayne Williams is doing his best to spin this news favorably, but it was his office that repeatedly failed in its role as ballot gatekeeper.

As for Keyser, this story appears likely to follow him all the way through his inevitable defeat in the GOP Senate Primary. Moss may have been the first person tossed under the bus in this ongoing scandal — now in its 6th week of press coverage — but this may just be another beginning of a different end for Keyser and the Republican operatives who pushed him forward in January.

    1. Keyser had nothing to do with this and knew nothing about it. He is no more responsible than an employer whose employee embezzles from them. This ridiculous Democratic witch hunt enabled by the biased media is disgusting. A good man is being destroyed.

      1. Witch hunt?  I would think the Republicans who love to bring up voter fraud at every turn to justify voter suppression, would be loving an actual arrest and prosecution of someone engaged in petition fraud.  Keyser's problem is not guilt by association, it's in the absolutely ridiculous way he has handled this.  Any honorable person standing for public office would condemn such fraud and commit to taking himself off the ballot if it were demonstrated that he would not have been on the ballot but for fraud.  He could have done so and his stock for future office would have soared, and he would have gained the respect of citizens of all political stripes.  But he didn't.  Instead, he reiterates in mantra-like fashion, "I'm on the ballot," as though he were clicking his ruby slippers together.  He's destroyed himself through a complete lack of common sense and good judgment.

      2. He is no more responsible than an employer whose employee embezzles from them.

If an employer receives a contract based on the fraud of an employee, and that fraud is discovered, you better believe they'll have their contract pulled.

A "good man" would bow out of the race if he knew that he's only there because of fraud. Who cares if he knew about it. Who cares if he's not responsible. Your "good man" is openly and willfully benefiting from fraud. His place on the ballot is fraudulent, and since he won't drop out, he's now a willing accomplice to it.

      3. The point isn't what he did or didn't have to do with it. The point is fraud was necessary to get him across the threshold.  Whether it's his own fault or not he's a fraudulent candidate. But no worries. The only candidate with a chance is Bennet anyway. Go back to  wherever you've been while your party's been crashing and burning around you these past few weeks and chill. I'd recommend an unconventional summer hibernation. Don't come out until after election day November.  And when you do, wear a helmet.

      4. Yeah, I see he's playing the "victim" and I'm not buying it. He needs to go after his hired guns Michael Fortney and Andy George who got paid to do the petition signing collection but subcontracted it. No sympathy for Keyser, who's protecting George and Fortney, and bottom line is this is Keyser's fraudulent mess.

  1. "What the arrest of Maureen Moss really confirms is that Keyser should have never made it onto the June 28th Primary ballot in the first place. Secretary of State Wayne Williams is doing his best to spin this news favorably, but it was his office that repeatedly failed in its role as ballot gatekeeper."

This is 100% TRUTH. He's all of the sudden a victim? He's a victim of his own EGO and an unbridled case of blind ambition.

    1. What about Secretary of State Wayne Williams and his office – and that whole debacle of no internal communication about Keyser's petitions? Williams stated today, "Circulators should be aware it is illegal to forge or falsify names and that we will work with and support district attorneys with prosecution." This should have been stamped on every petition – and I know this was stated to others ov4er the past six years who did carry petittons. And what about the notaries, who validated petitions but failed to use their seal?  That's another violation. Where's is Wayne Williams' legislative bill to increase the SoS powers to check for forgeries and deaths on petitions, which he claims not to have? Lots of talk, no action to protect other voters (dead and live) from this illegal behavior.
