► President Obama’simmigration-reform plan hit a major speed bump today when the Supreme Court stalled out on making a decision on a lower court ruling. Meanwhile, Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Aurora) is a co-sponsor of a new immigration bill; the legislation would allow immigrant children who have been in the U.S. since 2010 to stay in the country. Coincidentally, 2010 was the last year in which Coffman voted against the DREAM Act, just one stop on a long journey in which Coffman has basically taken every side available on immigration reform efforts.

IN CASE YOU ARE STANDING NEAR A WATER COOLER…

► Chuck Plunkett has been named the new Editorial Page Editor at the Denver Post. Plunkett will replace Vincent Carroll, who is leaving the Post as of July 1st. The “liberal” Denver Post? Uh, yeah, no.

► Donald Trump will visit Colorado on July 1st for the first time as a Presidential candidate when he speaks at the Western Conservative Summit. He will be joined by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

► Denver Post reporter John Frank previews the Republican race for the U.S. Senate nomination, which will conclude on Tuesday. Frank writes that momentum seems to favor Jack Graham and Darryl Glenn in the final days of the campaign…and talks to a voter who dismissed Jon Keyser despite prior support:

Rick Murray, a prominent Highlands Ranch Republican, voted for Graham. He liked Keyser at the start but switched allegiances after seeing how the candidate handled a controversy involving fraudulent signatures used to qualify for the ballot. “He shot himself in the foot,” Murray said. “I think he lost a lot of support.”

► The re-election campaign of Senator Michael Bennet (D-Denver) released a new digital advertisement detailing Bennet’s efforts to find a balanced solution regarding oil and gas development in the Thompson Divide.

► Colorado House Democrats are taking the unprecedented step of actively working against another Democrat — although it is probably in everyone’s best interest that con-artist Eric Nelson doesn’t make it any further in his political “career.” As Ernest Luning reports for the Colorado Statesman:

District residents are also receiving mailings this week from an organization called Concerned Citizens for Aurora Families, an independent expenditure committee that popped up on Tuesday with Facebook ads targeted at Aurora residents.

In its registration documents filed last Tuesday with the secretary of state, the committee lists its purpose as educating Colorado voters about legislative candidates and “opposing candidates with criminal backgrounds.”

Luning also notes this gem of a quote from Nelson, who appears to have fabricated virtually all of his resume (including Nelson’s claim that he has earned seven different degrees from various institutions of higher education):

“I am by far the most experienced candidate in the race, as well as the candidate with the longest and deepest roots in the community,” Nelson said in a Wednesday email to supporters.

Unfortunately for Nelson, pretending to have a lot of experience isn’t quite as impressive.

► The House of Representatives failed to make any headway on legislation that would allow legal marijuana businesses to have access to banking services.

► A delegation of people from Colorado are in Brazil to learn more about the bid process for hosting the Olympic Games. As Jon Murray writes for the Denver Post:

A brief mention in a news release caught my eye this week. It was about the visit to Brazil for a Biennial of the Americas summit — underway now — by a delegation led by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper.

On Thursday, the schedule says, “the delegation will attend an Olympics panel discussion on the economic impacts of hosting the Olympics to learn firsthand the planning process undertaken by the host committee in the lead-up to this year’s summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.”…

…The next chance to bid will come before 2019, when the International Olympic Committee selects the host of the 2026 Winter Games. Denver has been among several U.S. cities said to be considering bids, also including Salt Lake City; Anchorage, Alaska; and Bozeman, Mont.

Hopefully Colorado’s delegation remembered to bring a shitload of mosquito repellant.
