Donald Trump is About to Get (Really) Real

Donald Trump is about to give America some extra Donald Trump.
Donald Trump is about to give America some extra Donald Trump.

As CNN reports, Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump is taking the “shackles” off and throwing down gauntlets and whatever strained metaphor you might prefer to use:

Donald Trump is launching a kamikaze mission — fracturing his own party four weeks before Election Day.

The GOP nominee is lashing out in a stream of tweets boiling with rage and resentment, slamming House Speaker Paul Ryan for effectively cutting him loose and accusing the party leadership of dooming his campaign. It’s a meltdown unprecedented by a presidential nominee this late in the year.

“It is so nice that the shackles have been taken off me and I can now fight for America the way I want to,” Trump said in a tweet that raised the prospect of a full on civil war in the Republican Party. Such a battle would pit his loyal supporters against the rest of the GOP, including vulnerable lawmakers running for re-election that could threaten the party’s hold on Congress. [Pols emphasis]

This should end well.

When he isn’t busy attacking his fellow Republicans, Trump is rolling out new attacks on Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. This is where we’re headed for the next couple of weeks, folks.

  1. From an internal DCCC survey.

The DCCC-commissioned survey tested head-to-head ballots, pitting a generic Democrat against three types of Republican candidates.

Against a Republican “who continues to endorse Donald Trump” the Democratic margin moves from a 7-point advantage to a 12-point advantage.

Similarly, against a “Republican candidate who had supported Trump previously, but just withdrew their support” the Democratic margin moves from a 7-point advantage to a 12-point advantage.

Finally, even against a “Republican candidate who never formally endorsed Donald Trump and now says they won’t vote for him” the Democratic margin moves from a 7-point advantage to a 10-point advantage.

    So, let's see:

Coffman is screwed by 12 points (Category 2).  Tipton is screwed by 12 points (Category 1).  And, Glenn?  I don't know what category he's in, but screwed nonetheless.

  2. I'm unclear on the Trump position. He says that Ryan is weak and should be spending more time on balancing the budget and other legislative business [one of the few tweets from Trump I actually agree with]. Ryan says he's going to be working to campaign for members of the House who presumably would help him do those things in the next session of Congress. So Ryan is disloyal because???

    1. Thin-skinned Trump has taken umbrage at Ryan's disinvitation to Saturday's and all future co-campaign events, and telling his House caucus to do whatever it takes to win re-election, even if it means disavowing Trump.  That put a big owie on Trump's fragile ego.

There are only two levers in TrumpWorld.  Insults and flattery, depending on what your desired result is.
